Not possible to EDIT V+ recordings
Hi everyone.
Not found a way to edit v+ recordings i.e. to cut out advertisements etc to put the recording onto DVD etc. Obviously, on a stand-alone DVD recorder you can edit recording by pause and start.

Re: Not possible to EDIT V+ recordings
Requires the file to be on a PC but you can take a look at
http://www.comskip.org/
It takes the file and cuts on the adverts, requires tuning for each channel but the support forum is helpfull.

Jamiefrost.
Thanks for reply looked briefly at comskip, good utility that will help.
I take it then that V+ recordings cannot be edited in real time recording.
Thanks Novak

Re: Not possible to EDIT V+ recordings
There is no edit facility on the V+, just the export to DVD/VCR function. I use the edit function on my DVD recorder but simply cant be bothered to edit the ads ! 32speed fast forward works for me !!

Re: Not possible to EDIT V+ recordings
I confess that I love V+ etc for watching/recording, and that much 'HD' isn't, (final episodes of ER CH4 HD my wife watched are a joke as HD), whereas lots of SD is better than 'HD' (I am sure that it is all better than more expensive lower quality Murdoch stuff).
I suggest using your own eyes/ears etc/deciding accordingly - it's your money/your life.
If I want to save digitally until I can buy, I use my Topfield PVR/PC. Probably Humax PVR will do what Topfield does.
I suspect that Murdoch/USA consumers are happy with paying more for lower quality.

Re: Not possible to EDIT V+ recordings
Lets not turn this thread into an attack on Sky subscribers, thank you. The OP is talking about the V+, not Sky+ so any talk of Sky is off topic.

Re: Not possible to EDIT V+ recordings
Hi thanks everyone.
Interesting comments, probably best to edit after dropping recording on to Panny DVD recorder.
Or simply record to and edit from DVD recorder (lower res).
Thanks

Re: Not possible to EDIT V+ recordings
Despite all the sockets on the back of the V+ the export function only works on SCART/Composite video .
For the best quality, connect your DVD recorder to the TV Out SCART; that can fire out RGB if your DVD recorder has a corresponding input. Although you do need to watch the same programme you are archiving.
If the last bit of quality is important you might want to try it...

Re: Not possible to EDIT V+ recordings
You could use something like this, it has HDMI in:
http://blackmagic-design.com/products/intensity/
However this still won't copy HDCP video.

Re: Not possible to EDIT V+ recordings
I use an external HDD/DVD recorder. I playblack the required V+ programme and record to the HDD, selecting the recording quality in order to fit onto a DVD. I can then edit the programme on the HDD, removing bits at start/end and 'segmenting' out the ads. I can then dub to DVD giving a playable programme without ads etc. Although it uses the HDD/DVD recorders menu layout, it is possible transfer it to a PC and remove the menus completely or using the right software create your own menu layout, which would be useful for dealing with multiple episodes of a series.

I am impressed with your dedication, there is no way I would find the time to do that. Chopping off the beginning and end padding is about as far as I get !

I do something similar but using a Media Centre PC. Basically dump the individual programmes to the hard drive then edit them to remove the adds before, during and after.
I then (when it's a series) make a DVD (or two) with menus etc using Nero. Only do it for stuff I really want to keep.
