V+ and repeat radio recordings
Hi, yesterday I had a Samsung V+ box installed - I had specifically asked for a Samsung box (and was very pleased to get one) as I need to make radio recordings. Thus far I'm pretty impressed with it and its speed - although occasionally it seems to take a while to respond to instructions, mostly it's pretty fast. Two questions:-
1 I want to set up a regular radio recording each week. Unlike with Sky, I can set up a radio recording through the planner - but no facility to 'series link' it seems to exist. However, unlike Sky, the manual recording function also doesn't allow for any repeat facility. Is there any way round this - I'd have thought it a pretty trivial thing to add, particularly to the manual record function?
2 The Sky box turns itself to Standby overnight in an eco-friendly way. The V+ box doesn't. Not exactly critical, but anyone know if there are any plans?
Thanks for help - as I say, I'm pretty happy so far.

Not as trivial as you might think. Someone needs to enter the details of the series at Virgin's offices. OK, so most radio schedules don't change much, but the BBC ones do.

Don't know about the Samsung box, but the Scientific Atlanta one does shut down it's hard drive overnight. OF course, the most eco-friendly option is to unplug it from the mains overnight. Despite what Virgin say, you'll find that the V+ downloads new guide data and any new software when it's plugged in again. Trust me, I do this most nights.

Yes, I understand the issue for Planner based recordings - but surely trivial for manual recordings - you just need a setting like daily/weekly/whatever at this time?

There's no technical reason why series links shouldn't work on radio channels. If you find a missing series link, report it in this thread.

Yes there are plans. The hard drive already stops after a while.

I've been told it many times by Customer Service staff, both in the NTL days and after they changed to Virgin. As you say though, it isn't true.

Re: V+ and repeat radio recordings
Will Virgin ever fix the Scientific Atlanta V+ box to record radio or do I need to beg them for a Samsung replacement? Having abandoned my Nicam VCR in the loft thinking it obsolete, it was a great disappointment to be unable to make radio recordings on the V+.

 ,
The recording of radio programmes will be enabled in the Autumn on the Scientific Atlanta boxes when the Autumn update arrives.

Re: V+ and repeat radio recordings
And it was because I never trust predictions of software update dates that I insisted on a Samsung - and was delighted that I actually got one!
