Cant access normal teletext after installing V BOX

I have been a virgin media costumers for years, and after a problem with tv chanells freezing, an engineer called today, took away the old black cable box and renewed it with a silver VBox..........things seemed better with all chanels on tv working fine using chanel 6 to view them , ONLY because I cant access the normal Chanels on 1, 2 , 3, 4, 5 , I find I cant use the teletext button on my tv remote. in fact the only chanel i can use is ch6 to access the cable stuff.............i like using the teletext button on the tv to get lottery results and local weather, news stuff. there was no manual with the vbox, and i dont know how to get my normal settings on the tv ch1,2,3,4,5.

i telephoned just now and the chap said to go into chanel 6 ( cable chanel), then home, then interactive, but no use...................please advise

With this vbox , am i then denied setting up my tv on ch1 to ch5 with their approiate ( excuse spelling) chanels ?? which would then get me teletext, all of which are showing the white specked view

Re: Cant access normal teletext after installing V BOX

You're referring to the analogue bypass, which I'm afraid to say is a thing of the past. Virgin are phasing out the analogue channels to increase the capacity of the digital service. Digital teletext is available via the Red Button on BBC channels, other than that, a rooftop aerial is the only option until terrestrial analogue is also switched off.

Re: Cant access normal teletext after installing V BOX

Don't standard V box's output the analogue teletext along side the digital TV signal anymore? Mine used to - if i pressed TEXT on my TV remote while tuned to the cable channel i got the analogue teletext. I have V+ now connected by HDMI so not sure whether this works anymore.

Try pressing TEXT on your TV remote with the V box tuned to BBC1 and see what happens.

Re: Cant access normal teletext after installing V BOX

People still use the old analogue teletext? I thought that was killed of a decade ago.

With the internet to so easy to access now on so many devices, there's no reason to keep an old 8-bit era service like that up and running.

Re: Cant access normal teletext after installing V BOX

Yes they do . But not on channel 101-105 in Belfast, which doesn't help the OP much.

Try Sky Sports 2, Eurosport, the music channels and TV5 for examples that do carry teletext magazines. The national BBC channels in the 850-865 range have a rudimentary service too. The teletext is there mainly to provide subtitles. Any other pages are a bonus.

That's why it worked for me then, I'm not in Belfast. Didn't know it was region dependant.

Re: Cant access normal teletext after installing V BOX

thank you once again for the informative and helpful replies. yesterday after the vbox was installed , on the engineer taking away the old 13 year black box, it was just a case of surprise/shock not to have the teletext available as normal.................( just one of those things ) From my wifes point of view she thinks its brill lol because I used to sit with the tv remote control, and she would have the cable remote control, and of course now that not being the case ........she has total control of what we watch (ahhhhhhh) sad man aint I ...........all the best folks, time for the gym............

thanks again
