Anyone know if there are plans for an spl highlight show on either sky or espn? just annoying sitting through ages of sky sports news waiting on them to only show the goals! If not why do the bbc have to wait until a monday night to sho them?
cheers

Re: Spl Highlights?
thanks but i mean like the highlights show there used to be on setanta. all ive seen are the odd goal on sky sports news but none of the sky or espn channels have a dedicated spl show others than the live game. cant find anything on the epg thats why i was wondering if there r any plans for the future.

Re: Spl Highlights?
This item has opened a situation here, with Scottish football to me does not get the cover it deserves in England, It is like all the other Leagues ie Blue Square etc, The cover league supply some great talent for the big boys down here. Sky and ESPN should cover more of these leagues and NOT Celtic / Rangers games, we should have a programme called such as ' NORTH OF THE BORDER FOOTBALL' that would cover everything, just think of all the Scots all over the country.

In a perfect world, all leagues would be covered equally. But if there is little interest in it, it's not going to be worth them spending the money on it.

Re: Spl Highlights?
but had it not been for the spl and the bs prem which setanta had the rights to long before it had the epl then setanta could not have afforded to bid on the epl in the first place as it built a lot on its subsciptions from these two leagues. and if setanta hadnt had the epl then i doubt there would have been an espn or espn hd (which is enjoyed free on xl) thats why i dont know why neither broadcaster would have a show for these highlights, and if they have no plans for it then why cant the bbc have a show before the monday.
p.s. i know that setanta couldnt really afford all the deals they had otherwise they'd still be in business but i think thats more to do with them offering silly money rather than subscription base.

Setanta's subscription base was fairly small, the BSP was filler, whilst the SPL was partly that and also they knew that some people wanted to watch it. But compared to the EPL, the viewing figures are nothing.
According to Barb's viewing figures for w/e March 1st 2009, Setanta Sports 1 showed a live EPL game, drawing 382,000 viewers. The SPL game in the same week saw 104,000 viewers. In other weeks the SPL has seen half that for some games.
The Full SPL, Setanta's SPL show, saw just 22,000 viewers. Is it worth spending money on producing a show which receives so few viewers? To me, no.

Re: Spl Highlights?
fair enuff nook good figures i should have said imo on my last post! hehe. i wasnt havin a pop at the channels was just a bit dissapointed that there doesnt look like bein a scottish version of motd (if the full spl was comparable). the full spl was usually on at a different time (sometimes different day) every week and thats only if they bothered to show it. compairing the ratings for the live games epl is obviously a bigger draw but if you took population of both countries into it then the 104k as a percentage of the scottish population then im sure its a great deal more than 382k of the english population.
sry cant agree fully wi a goonner this week. keeping us out of champs league!!!

Re: Spl Highlights?
I don't think a Match of the Day type show for the SPL is at all likely, but a show which runs through each game and all the goals would be reasonable, and something I'd expect, considering ESPN have round ups of almost every league they have rights to.
And don't give up yet, you could win on Wednesday! (You won't, but you could :p)

Significantly less than the SPL (which is to be expected). The Bundesliga rarely appeared in Setanta's top 10 most viewed in a week, and if it did it got around 20-30,000 viewers.

Sky have one on a Monday evening e.g. at 6:30 this evening. It is just half an hour, and based on last week is not made by Sky.
