I think the reasoning was, that the 1 day works but the 3 day one (on my old black Pace box) crashed often when trying to look at days ahead.

The VM EPG is very memory hungry and the older boxes couldn't cope with the 3 day version, hence the present situation. As boxes are being reconditioned and coming back into circulation after faults, they are being fitted with more memory, so an upgrade of EPG may not be too far away in the future.
