Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2009)

Contrary to popular belief, VM tend to announce things when they happen. In an unpredictable business, it makes good sense to only announce them when they are ready to go. So I'd expect the ITV content to start appearing very shortly.

VOD was first announced on the day it launched.

Same with iPlayer.

Out of necessity, large amounts of VOD content can't instantly appear. It needs to be propagated over the network to the 55 server farms.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2009)

My point with iPlayer was that there was a great fanfare associated with it. On day 1, the content didn't really increase, at all, it was the UI there. It really did take months for the content to grow to the good standard it is now.

I agree in this case it was probably sensible keeping quiet as if those media reports are anything to go buy virgin had a year's difficult haggling with ITV, so a good job all round.

The only thing that suggests to me that ITV vod might appear is the strange disappearance of large amounts of HD vod at more or less the same time as this announcement...

It makes you think doesn't it, I reckon at a guess it would be a lot more than 100's tbs I'd say well into the 1,000's of tbs.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2009)

nah, 320gb max, they will all be low bitrate divx :PP

Wonder what the quality of ITV player will be as their 1 on the website uses an hurrendous bitrate its completely unwatchable, iplayer's video is fairly decent, not great but watchable, hope itv player doesnt give the same awful quality to virgin boxes.

you have no concept of video encoding them even if it was low bitrate which i snt, they sitll need at least 10tb for all the stuff they have, to have it all fit on 320gb then need to have the file sizes about 1mb each and i dnt think that is the size and the video would be unwatchable

btw it encoded in h264
