V+ box, HDMIoutput, volume control

Hi folks,

I can see a few threads about controlling the TV volume using the V+ box, but my problem is different.

I have my V+ box with output via HDMI to a HD computer monitor using an HDMI -> DVI cable. The monitor does not have any speakers.

I have connected standalone active speakers to the audio output on the HDMI box, and the sound quality is fine - but I can't control the sound using the remote.

The V+ box was previously used with a TV, where the remote controlled the sound. So I think I need to disable the remote from trying to control TV sound. I then hope that I can control the sound output on the V+ box.

Is this possible? If so, how do I do it? I don't want to have to buy a hifi with remote just to be able to control the sound remotely!

Re: V+ box, HDMIoutput, volume control

No, it's not possible with the V+ set to HDMI mode.

If you used SCART and had a black remote, code 0683 would work. The silver remotes can't control the V+ volume.

Re: V+ box, HDMIoutput, volume control

It is a black remote, BTW.

It does seem a bit silly that you can't control the sound output volume on the V+ box for the one connection (HDMI) that does not carry sound to the TV

Re: V+ box, HDMIoutput, volume control

I might be wrong but I thought the Volume controls had nothing to do with the V+ box, I thought they were only there to be used with whatever was outputting the sound e.g. TV, surround system, etc.

Re: V+ box, HDMIoutput, volume control

I'm pretty sure I did see the remote adjusting the volume of the V+ box on the day we got it installed - unless I'm thinking of the old V box.

Also, under technical stuff, you can see the current volume level, which indicates that it can be adjusted.

I still think it's silly not to have the option - there's no guarantee that you will have remote access to volume control on any attached audio components.

Now I need to find an audio option that can be adjusted remotely - I'll probably end up with a cheap hi-fi from Argos!

Re: V+ box, HDMIoutput, volume control

Sure you used to be able to control the volume via the V+, as the was a bug in previous firmware where the mute could be activated. Have you tried setting the remote with the code mentioned before. I think this code resets the V+ remote.
