Re: calling all v+ owners

The hard drive is the only thing that can make that noise

I would look closely at how you have it positioned (wood will amplify sounds - hence why they make speakers with it) -someone already suggested standing it in bluetack

The metal casing could be amplifying the sound if it's not secure - put your hand on the top/sides see if it stops - if it does put a lump on the panel stop it

Maybe even format the drive - it maybe fragmented and no method of defragmenting it other than format

Re: calling all v+ owners

Non of the above works... i know.... i nearly threw it out of the window trying LOL

I had a lovely non-ticking box until it went wrong ...since i have 2 new V+ boxes installed and they both ticked.

The tech /installers both said it was a normal sound (hmmmmm) so ive ended up convertins a drawwith a perpex font and it now sits behind that (ventilated at the back of course)

Problem solved BUT its f-ing stupid that these boxes are allowed to passspec when they make such a noise...

Re: calling all v+ owners

Go into Diag (reboot the box holding up and down until diag appears) scroll to page 5 using the right arrow button and it will tell you what HDD you have.

mine is a Maxtor 6Y160P0.

too right the only reason virgin are being so accommodating to my problem is because i still have the 7 days to get my money back once that's up they wont swap the box again so fingers crossed 3rd time lucky or its gone

Re: calling all v+ owners

This happens to my box when it has been idle for a number of hours for first few minutes, then settles down. Only happened since the code update a few weeks ago.

Oh & the 12.05 freeze has got worse....
