Re: Help with V+

Hi and Welcome

I must say my own V+ doesn't sound like a fridge but my old one was a little noisy, its the hard drive and fans that cause the noise.

What exactly is not working with your picture setting? What do you have the V+ set to? 720 or 720wide?

Re: Help with V+

If you change to 720 that will show each programme in its correct ratio. 720 wide displays everything in widescreen even if it isn't broadcast that way. You should then be able to change the ratio setting on your actual TV.

To be honest all the boxes do make a little noise sometimes so you probably wouldn't get it changed just for that.

I have the same tv, and you can't change it, which is a bit annoying when watching old programs. I could change it on freeview etc. One thing I find annoying with these TVs is that you can't set it to allways come on to HDMI, which is so annoying.

Make sure you have your box on a stable surface. Try gettting 4 large bits of bluetack and sticking them under eack leg of the box, so it is lifted slightly off the ground.

Hope this helps!

Re: Help with V+

In terms of the picture zoom, it'll be the TV not allowing you to zoom/stretch an HDMI signal. I have an el cheapo LCD HDTV and it will let me stretch, which is very useful for watching e.g. Buffy on FX because they show it letterboxed (as in, with black bars at the top and bottom) and my TV lets me stretch that vertically.

your picture size work fine on 'virgin tv' but they are disabled when using HDMI (digtal) socket

some newer TV's have picxture control on HDMI now too

My V+ doesn't make any noise

A/ It maybe due to where you're puttin it (on wood shelf) - you could try the bluetack suggested

B/ Ask VM to swap it for one that doesn't make a noise - if you register your complaint then it will extend 10 day cancellation period

Re: Help with V+

alex, I think there may be something in the menu, like HDMI audio override? Never touched this, but it may be that. Also try and unplug the HDMI cable from your V+ box to make sure it knows it is not there.

Re: Help with V+

Lucky you... i had my box swapped twice and still have the ticking... the box is now encased in a re-designed draw with perspex in from of it, so now i have a much more "Silent Night- Holy Night" ) (blush)

also my tv doesn't allow much ratio change via HDMI either > it's a samsung

Re: Help with V+

No, lots of TVs will let you change all the settings if you are using scart, but not HDMI. Strange, as HDMI was built with all these new TVs in mind.

Re: Help with V+

Been playing with my new box and found the same aspect ratio problems - having it on '720 wide' outputs everything 16:9, irregardless of the OAR, switching it to just '720' seems to solve it. Widescreen broadcasts are output at 16:9, 4:3 programmes in, er...4:3 with curtains, as we say in the trade! Only downside is the Virgin menus and EPG are all permanently in 4:3 on this setting. Not a huge blow, but it would be nice to get them back fullscreen.
