Series Record Didnt Work
HI all. I am quite new to the v+ (about 3 weeks).
I have set several programmes to series record. Tonight, for the first time since it started, I'm a celebrity get me out of here didn't record. I have checked and the series record instruction is still there so hasn't accidentally got deleted. There was another programme recording at about the same time and in addition I had live tv on pause. Does having the tv on pause stop one of the two recordings from starting?
Secondly, when browsing the tv guide I have noticed episodes of programmes that I have set to series record(i.e. Aircrash Investigation, Torchwood and a few others) aren't set to record and I have had to set series record again. I currently have 3 instances of Aircrash Investigation and 2 of Torchwood in my planned series records. Looking at the details by pressing the "i" button they aren't ones that I have already seen.
As a last question (sorry) and probably off-topic (forgive me) how far should I be sitting back from a 40" lcd tv as I don't feel the picture is that good often and wonder if I am too near to it- As an example Ant and Dec's faces are a little pixellated sometimes!
Thanks for reading.

Re: Series Record Didnt Work
having live TV on pause and trying to record two programmes would be your problem. The V+ can only record two things at once.
If there are two series ofthe same programme on the same channel it can look a little odd as you have to set a series record for both series

Re: Series Record Didnt Work
Oh I see, I must remember that as I use pause live tv quite a lot. Should it put a warning up on the screen that a planned recording can't start? If it did I didnt see it.

@superhoops
a rough guide for viewing distance is 2- 3 times screen size so in your case 8-10 ft

A strange thing- As a test I have just started to record 2 programs and then paused live tv - and they all worked!

the V+ afaik has 3 tuners, so the 'record 2 pause another' should theoretically work, as you found, however the order in which the record functions are enabled could matter, or differ for series record? - Spiderplant may be able to throw further light on this ???

Re: Series Record Didnt Work
The order doesn't matter. You can always record two and watch/pause a third. That's three tuners for you.

Re: Series Record Didnt Work
I have I'm a celebrity get me out of here on series link too and mine also failed to record last night. This is despite the fact it was doing nothing else at the time, plus the red record light was on and even in the TV guide it was highlighted red. Also, the HDD was making the sort of noise it normally does when recording. When I pressed record, it asked me did I want to cancel - in other words to all intents and purposes, it WAS recording. But it wasn't showing up in recorded programmes - eventually, later on, it did, but with "Failed" next to it.

If you have
Tuner 1 on pause
Tuner 2 recording a 2 hour programme
Tuner 3 recording 2 * 1 hour programmes end to end
With the overlap of the program recordings on tuner 3 (even though they're end to end) this can cause recordings to fail. I've seen it fail on mine but i've also seen it work so haven't worked out the critical factor yet.

Re: Series Record Didnt Work
With regards to the programs not showing as they will record, just wait. I have noticed this before, just check a day or two before they are going to record and they should show in red, even if they are not doing now.

For tuner 3 recording 2 *1 hour programmes I usually do a manual recording for a length of 2 hours to be on the safe side.

Re: Series Record Didnt Work
Thanks all for your replies. Going back to one of my earlier points about programmes set for series record and not all instances being picked up for recording I appreciate the reply that different series have to be set separately. However there is a new series of The Real Hustle on called Real Hustle High Stakes. This is the only series of this programme called High Stakes. It picks up a few of them but misses some as well. Is my machine not working properly?

Re: Series Record Didnt Work
I think i have it, the real hustle high stakes is only on thursday evenings. There are many repeats on BBC 3 as well, but it is only actually on once a week. I know this because I watch it.
This is your V+ box being clever!
Is this OK?

Re: Series Record Didnt Work
Hi and thanks for the reply. Are you saying that the v+ doesn't record repeats?
---------- Post added at 18:55 ---------- Previous post was at 17:16 ----------
My experiences with the v+ is getting worse. Last night I deleted some of my planned series
as I realised I was down to only about 20 hours left out the original 80 hours. I have just realised that doing so has deleted all the recorded programmes from those series records. My 9 year old will go mental when he sees all the "Galactic Football"s I had for him have gone. All my "Air Crash Investigation" and "Street Crime UK" have gone!!! Surely that can't be right?? One off recordings are still there.Ughhh

Where abouts did you get this idea from?
It's wrong anyway
VM can record two channels (with 2 tuners) and pause/rewind with the 3rd tuner
.

It's designed to work that way
where you can have a problem is where you have two consequtive recordings on same channel & third recording on another channel - V+ tries to overlap the consequtive recordings (e.g. record three things at once) which it cant do
feel sure this issue was fixed in an update some time ago
.

You've introduced another variable now (the overlap)
suffice it to say V+ can record 2 things and still pause with 3rd tuner
