strange going on with some programmes

Hi

I have just had V+ installed and lovin it! I have a HD TV and the V+ is through the HDMI, all settings are 1080 and working fine.....however when some programmes or channels come on, the screen changes and the picture has a dirty big black line either side and it reduces the picture to the middle of the TV screen. What is this all about...is it my TV or just something?

Do you have it at 1080 or 1080wide ?

1080 wide, but have tried different sizes etc.

I used to get exactly the same on Setanta channels when using the HDMI channels... just got used to it tho.... but like you say its annoying.

The 1080/1080 wide function (and this is how I understand it works) is that it will stretch a 4:3 channel to 16:9. However sometimes you will get a 16:9 channel showing a 4:3 picture i.e they actually broadcast the black bars

Because the picture is still 16:9, the V+ doesn't think it needs to do any stretching
