Remote Infrared sensor for V+ box

Hi all

I have just been on the phone with Virgin Media client care, faults and a host of others to no avail and am wondering if anyone here can help.

I want to put my Virgin+ HD box in a cupboard with a wooden door (actually, my wife wants to do this) and therefore would like to know if anyone can recommend an infrared receiver that I can use to relay the remote signal. I have looked online and but all remote 'eye' products seem to work with Sky but specifically do not work with Virgin!

The box itself appears to have an IR out, 1/8 inch jack plug at the back. Can this be used for any infrared sensor?

All suggestions greatly appreciated.

Thanks and regards

Re: Remote Infrared sensor for V+ box

given the heat output by the various Cable Set Top Boxes, concealing it in a cupboard may not be wise. You do need to ensure good ventilation.

There used to be compatibility issues with infrared sensors for cable STBs, especially the older pace versions which used a non standard sensor stuff, hence the warnings on most sensor kits.

Re: Remote Infrared sensor for V+ box

I don't think you can use the jack on the back for anything, you need to use a seperate sender. Luckily, the V+ box uses standard RC5 infra red signals, so pretty much any remote sender will work.

The thing about them not working with Virgin is in regard to the older boxes which used IRDA standards and wouldn't work. If you want some more info, have a look at www.redremote.co.uk

I use a Powermid XL made by Marmitek (now Eurovox I think). You can pick them up for about £20 - £25.

Re: Remote Infrared sensor for V+ box

Thanks very much for the responses.

I have got ventilation in the cupboard so am not concerned about the heat and will try the IR remote you suggested, Begize.

Thanks again!

Re: Remote Infrared sensor for V+ box

Just had the V+ Box fitted and have just bought a IR extender repeater from maplins for 25 pound. After been told this will not work by the instore , i rang virgin media to be told it was a standard IR and any IR extender would work.I am working my blu ray player and my v+ from this extender and it works great. Hope this helps.
