On demand problems.

I had been having a few problems with my virgin TV (pe4 5au), including on demand , pictures breaking down , smart card problems , slow responses etc..

So i got a new box fitted the other day , now everything is working nice and fast like it used to do when i first got it . But on demand is still completely unreliable . I can watch shows ok sometimes , but then others just dont work . Last night i watched 2 episodes off the sopranos(series 2) , but then cant watch anymore , tried again today and the same thing , just stutters or freezes . Same with films , one will work and another wont . It just makes it too unreliable to watch or use .

I'm posting here as i am just not sure what to do , i've complained on the phone , i've complained to the engingeer , i've emailed . They mumble it might be a local problem , but they not sure . So i think im just stuck with it . Been like this for 2 weeks now . Any idea's on how to get help for this? , or who to contact for a proper answer? or info on when it will start working again ?

I love it when people post their postcode. It makes things so much easier

It's not just affecting you. Several people in your area have the same fault. I'll try to get someone to look at it.

Meanwhile if you press stop to go back to the menu, then restart, it may make the problem go away.

thanks for the reply .

i love the on-demand service , so i rely on it alot . It's basically 90% of what i watch . Had problems with 3 films recently , they refunded them for me but sort off spoils the fillm when it stops after 10 minutes .

Don't know if its just coincidence , but with me it seems more likely to happen the more i use it , the first show i watch will be fine but then after that it wont work again that night , but not always.

Resetting the box doesnt work , not had any success with stopping , or rewinding , or trying it again .

It's basically a 50/50 chance of you getting the problem, though it's going to depend on what other users in your area are doing. There are two sets of equipment in the headend, and I suspect one of them is faulty. It's just luck which set you get.

If you just pause or rewind, it won't switch from one set to the other. You need to go right back to the menus, and hope someone else starts using the bad set in the meantime.

thanks for the information , it's good to know what's going on , hopefully they fix it soon.

My experience with the problem sounds like what you saying , sometimes it works and sometimes not.
