V+ remote and coke don't mix
Just in case anybody was wondering what effect immersing your v+ remote in a glass of coke would have...
My 3 year old daughter performed the aforementioned practical experiment earlier today and the the remote is not happy and has now gone on strike. It did for a while randomly increase the TV volume to intolerable levels until I removed the batteries but now it had dried out it is doing hee-haw, de nada, nothing..
Oh what fun I had moving from BBC1 at the end of the golf to Nick Jr 715 without the remote.
For scientific accuracy I should state the product in question was actually Pepsi Max so I may be doing coke an injustice. (who'd have thought you could get "doing coke" and "injustice" in the one sentance.)
It's amazing how disinterested I've become in channel hopping tonight...

Go grab yourself a Logitech Harmony. £40 from Amazon, and the One Remote To Rule Them All.

Coke is acidic hence conducts electricity in small amounts...
Grab some IPA (isopropynol alcohol) and gently rinse/clean the internal board, even if it doesn't work after that you have a clean remote to ring up TS and claim a new one in replacement for the duff one

Thanks for that Kymmy. I did try cleaning it this morning with some meths on a cotton bud but it's still kaput. I'll phone virgin tomorrow and tell them the story. I've got such a bad memory though i'm not sure if can remember what happened before it stopped working

Re: V+ remote and coke don't mix
Gave it more vigorous clean with meths last night and I've got some functionality back. It only seems to be the V+ functionality and the channel up/down that isn't working.
VM say they'll send a replacement in 7-10 days. I told them it wasn't working without mentioning the probable reason why. I don't know whether to go to confessions or not now

Re: V+ remote and coke don't mix
I would say coke mixed with just about any electronic device wont work esp keyboards and I bet most of us have done that at one time or another

Re: V+ remote and coke don't mix
As long as the coke is washed out (it's not conductive enough to short out and destroy the circuit) and then the wash solution is thouroughly dried it should be OK.
Remember that the pads on the board and the pads on the back of the rubber keys are both impregnated with carbon (the only non-metal that conducts) the carbon tends to soak up liquids so must be thouroughly dried before use, also the chips on the board store liquid beneath them (capillary action) so also need a good blow out and dried.
Best method was to leave it disassembled on top of warm radiator overnight
