Media Boy has been told that Virgin will start adding Ex-Telewest or Ex-ntl only channels and up to 8 new channels in October.
Neil Berkett says in an email: ''We will be launching more channels later in the year, and the channel launches will be a mixture of those which will harmonise the services across the platforms and some new content for all customers. Unfortunately, we are unable to provide details around the nature of this content at this point, but you should see it arrive over the coming months.'' (Info thanks to ufitm)
Virgin hope to have Channel 4 HD on Virgin TV.

Media Boy Thinks: If Virgin do sign an new deal with BBC for BBC Alba we may get the following channels as part of that deal - BBC One England, BBC One Scotland, BBC One Northern Ireland, BBC One Wales, BBC Two England (Ex-Telewest) and BBC Radio 4 LW (Ex-ntl).

NOTE: The following BBC Radio channels: BBC Radio Scotland, BBC Radio Wales, BBC Radio Ulster, BBC Radio nan Gaidheal & BBC Radio Cymru will all move channels numbers if Virgin Media can get them into Ex-Telewest ( Due to Local Radio Channel being on Ex-Telewest channels 930 - 950. )

Virgin hope to complete the EPG alignment between ex-ntl and ex-Telewest including the removal of channels that are not on both networks by the end of 2008.

Five's director of programmes Ben Gale has revealed that Five are looking into the possibility of launching a stand-alone children's channel based on its Milkshake strand of pre-school programmes.
BSkyB hope to have their Basic Channels back on Virgin TV sometime in the 1st half of 2009.
The chief executive of SMG, has outlined plans for a "Scottish Gold" TV channel, in partnership with the BBC.
STAR One and STAR Gold will not be launching on Virgin Media for the forseeable future. Due to Virgin Media who ''do not think there is an increased demand to sufficiently accomodate these channels'' on their network.
The Paranormal Channel plans to launch on Virgin within six months (Dated 7th of June 2008).
NBC Universal-backed kids' broadcaster KidsCo is rumoured to be in discussions with Virgin Media looking to launch a linear TV channel on their platform.
Virgin are rumoured to be in talks with the following broadcasters: ITV, Five & Sky.
Motors TV are says to be ''currently finalizing the renegotiation of they contract'' with Virgin Media.

Global Radio has announced it will re-brand XFM Scotland as Galaxy Scotland (Rumoured on Wikipedia to be 8th of November). The re-brand is part of Global Radio’s major strategy to expand the brand across the UK. Meaning a second name change for the Glasgow-based station which launched as Beat 106 in 1999. Global Radio have also announced that they are to put five stations up for sale, to ensure their buyout of GCap Media can proceed. The sale of BRMB, Beacon Radio, Mercia FM and Wyvern in the West Midlands has been accepted by the Office of Fair Trading (OFT) as a solution to competition concerns in the West Midlands, while Heart 106 in the East Midlands will either be sold or licensed as a franchise. I know that some radio channels are on Ex-Telewest in some parts of the UK and I have been told that they will stay but Virgin will need to move all the BBC Radio channels that are only on NTL to new channels numbers so that all the Virgin Networks (Ex-ntl and Ex-Telewest) viewers can have them.

When deals with broadcasters run out Virgin Media need to sign new one to keep that Channel on Virgin TV.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV

Ok, after some discussion with Media Boy and taking on board some of the constructive comments from the previous thread, it has been decided that we will proceed as follows:

1. The old thread has been closed, but will remain for information purposes
2.
Media Boy will collate all the information from his various sources and provide it to me once a week, indicating where the changes are
3. I will update the initial post to show the changes/amendments

In addition to that
Media Boy will be on hand to answer any questions that arise and to provide links to other sources of information as they come up.

Could I please ask, in order to make the most of this new thread, that we try to stick as strictly as possible to the topic at hand.

Virgin Media has announced an agreement with Saavn, the world's largest digital distributor of South Asian content, to make Bollywood films available on demand.From July, Virgin Media's Bollywood launch line-up will include Taare Zameen Par, Life In a… Metro, starring Shilpa Shetty, and the hugely popular, Race, one of the best performing Bollywood films ever, taking over £350,000 at the UK Box Office on its opening weekend in March this year.
Available as a dedicated section on Virgin Media's on demand service, Bollywood enables viewers to choose from 30 hit film titles, to watch when they want, with further titles refreshed and added each month. Bollywood joins around 4600 hours of on demand content, including over 500 films, currently available from Virgin Media.
Malcolm Wall, CEO of Content at Virgin Media, said: "Our agreement with Saavn brings one of the largest digital catalogues of Bollywood films to a UK TV platform for the first time. Virgin Media is always looking to bring new content to our customers and we're delighted to be making a fantastic line-up of Bollywood films available as we continue to develop our compelling TV on demand line-up."
Vinodh V. Bhat, General Manager, Saavn, said: "We are excited to work with Virgin Media to bring the best of Bollywood entertainment to UK consumers. Bollywood is the world’s largest entertainment industry – 4 billion tickets are sold to its films each year – and now, thanks to Virgin Media, people will be able to enjoy top Bollywood entertainment on demand, right on their televisions."
Virgin Media customers can access the service by pressing Home and going to More on Demand. Film prices start at £2.

not sure if it is worth asking but any news on if Eurosport HD will ever end up on Virgin ? It's on Sky now just a shame it's another channel not on VM.

BBC to show SPL on Saturday nights.

Gaelic Digital Service will launch on Virgin Media on September 19th with an SPL game being broadcast every week on an Saturday night.

Yes Virgin sign an Three year deal with Setanta last July.

But maybe the non XL viewers will need to pay extra as Setanta are putting their prices up on Sky and Freeview right now.
