No way.

Virgin Media is much improved over NTL.

I've been a customer of NTL/NTL:Telewest/VM for over 10 years, customer service (ruling out offshore) has been the best I have seen in years.

You're entitled to your opinion of course, but even this thread shows that Virgin are much improved over their previous incarnations.

And your experience :-)

I have never had any issues with ntl: or Virgin Media, bar the removal of Travel Channel and the lack of European channels.

However I can live without them !

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV

Can we try to remember please that this thread is not about the comparative benefits of one service provider over another. It has a very specific purpose, and it would be better if the information contained in it (and subsequent discussions about the same) was not diluted by off-topic discussion.

Thanks

It's a shame that, in order to gain one new channel and its +1 partner, we have to lose two perfectly good +1 channels. I don't understand how these deals work. Surely when VM sign up for a channel they should get the +1 channel free (especially in the case of UKTV in which VM is a partner with BBC Worldwide).

Agreed but they must have done some research on viewing statistics that says that UKTV Food +1 and UKTV Style +1 are more popular than UKTV History +1 and UKTV Documentary +1.

And now for my non-PC but tongue in cheek comment ... housewives beat intelligencia!

I really value the +1 channels, especially the aforementioned UKTV as well as Discovery, Living and Hallmark, as so many of my favourite programmes conflict. Sometimes I simply miss the original but get a second chance to watch it an hour later.

I'm thinking of getting a V+ box which would, in theory, give me the same thing but without the spontaneity (i.e. I'd have to programme it and therefore know in advance that I was going to miss a programme). Right now, it's nice to know that I can watch Criminal Minds, Crossing Jordan and CSI and still cook my dinner without misssing any of them.

I really wonder what substances the UKTV staff were on when they chose the new channel names. Names like Dave, Watch, Eden and Blighty are not terribly meaningful. I suppose Alibi is okay but wouldn't UKTV Crime, with or without the word Drama, have been good enough. Will Food become Grub or Nosh and Gardens become Mulch or Manure? How about Wallpaper or Rags for Style, Old for History, Dudes for People and Snooze for Documentary?

The only reason people are saying 'Get rid of the +1 channels' is because, given the choice, they would prefer different channels - the +1s are a waste of bandwidth.

Of course, it would be nice to have both, and that would also be my preference.

I do not like the idea that VM can just take channels off when it suits them. It happened with the Sky channels 18 months or so ago and before that, Telewest took off Nickelodeon I think it was, and on both occasions, there was a public outcry.

VM need to listen to their customers more.

On the UKTV issue, it is perhaps surprising that there wasn't a little cash tucked away to pay for circumstances such as new channels affecting carriage deals.

Cash tucked away!!! How on earth would they be able to pay for those Hollywood stars who so skillfully bring in more customers.
We must learn to get our priorities right...I mean putting money aside for extra channels, I've never heard of the like.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV

It is certainly wrong that non-XL customers lost channels that they already had to make room for channels they can't have, one of which is a +1 channel anyway, which somewhat negates the argument for dropping +1s to accomodate additional channels.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV

Perform, the digital programming provider, has expanded the content on its VoD service e-Player with the launch of two new sport channels.

Factory Media's mpora.tv, which features highlights from extreme sports, and Aussie Sport TV, which features coverage of Australia's V8 Super Cars championships, will be available to e-Player viewers from next week.

In addition, highlights from Major League Soccer, the US equivalent to the English Premier League, will feature on the Omnisport.tv International Football channel, currently available on e-Player via the VirginMedia.com portal.

Perform and Virgin Media launched their e-Player partnership in August and the two new channels will enhance the Virgin Media sport offering, sitting alongside the broadcaster's Barclays Premier League and Coca-Cola Football League match content

The TV magazines are no longer showing National Geographic +1 or History +1 as being on Virgin Media. Are these channels disappearing as well as part of the harmonisation process?

If so, your list needs to reflect this.
