Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV
VOD is a great idea and really works well for me so I can understand VM pushing that rather than HD channels, but does anyone really join V< just for the VOD ?
The vast majority of people taking out the service are interested in linear channels and see VOD as a bonus. It may be different for those of us on here but most of the non tech people I know just see VOD as a bonus or just never use it at all

The second channel is video on demand.
Two of the four channels will be Channel 4 HD and ITV HD. The rest is speculation.
Later in the year, still hopeful that we will get all 15 Sky HD channels.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV
i havent seen any info saying ITVHD will be added, it was to be exclusive to freesat in order to fuel freesat's popularity and to give an exclusivity for it against sky. Adding it to virgin would give freesat no advantages over virgin so i'm a little skeptical when i see itvhd as a possible channel.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV
ITV HD is being added to freeview in 2009 as has been said many times. It will not be exclusive forever (although probably till next year). So it is not a considerable leap of imaginiation that it will appear on Sky and Cable in 2009. Of course it's possible it won't appear on VM but that would be a spectacular own goal.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV
Dont see why the CEO didnt announce the channels, if they know there are going to be 4 im certain they have already chosen otherwise they would have said around 4 hd channels if contracts for channels hadnt been fully decided yet, would help people in deciding to get freesat, sky hd or virgin v+ as i want channel4hd and itvhd to go with the bbchd i currently receive.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV
I have been told that Virgin Media are sigining two deals with broadcasters - One for their SD Channels and One for their HD Channels.
So that means if Discovery HD starts that does not mean that all the missing Discovery SD Channels will not appear as well.

ESPN Classic is the one channel I can think of which VM does not offer.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV
espn classic isn't a earth shattering addition hehe, cant be many people who would watch it. Setanta HD would probably be crap bitrate if they did make a hd channel as their SD channel uses really low bitrates which make football etc look horrible. Sky sports is around 5-6mbps which looks very nice, bbc around 4.5mbps. setanta is around 2.5mbps and looks very bad. Eurosport use awful resolution and bitrate on SD and on their HD channel.
MTVHD would be welcomed too.

This is off topic but you are completely and utterly wrong. Some of the setanta SD channels actually have high, not low bitrates and the figures you quote are wrong (setanta 1 is a lot higher than 2.5Mbs and BBC1 is actually usually the lowest of the bitrates but they are all around 4-5Mbs). I agree they look extremely poor but this is down to encoders and production. The only thing I agree on is SD on setanta is so bad that I hope they do get HD.
Eurosport HD looks fantastic. SD is very washed out and annoying in 4:3, it really shows off what HD can do.
As for ESPN I hope they do add it to standard def, it's extra sports, everyone likes different things.

Haha! I didn't even know V did VOD until I joined! It's great, but V should actually let people know how good it is

I'd say that just about every sports fan would be interested in a classic sports channel.

Given that Virgin Media has an interest in Setanta one would suggest that a HD version of Setanta would seem like a logical channel to have, and maybe it would be a VM exclusive in the way that sky Sports HD is a Sky Digital exclusive.
I'm sure that Mediaboy's update will include the quotes by Neil Berkett and the afct that VM will have four HD channels within the next three months and my guess would be BBC HD, ITVHD, Ch4 HD and setanta Sports HD and/or Eurosport HD.
