Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV
Five to launch kids' channel
Five is to launch a dedicated children's channel to build on the success of its pre-school strand Milkshake.
The RTL-owned broadcaster is in the advanced stages of plans to roll out its first new digital channel since 2006, which could hit the airwaves next year.
Carl Ratcliff, head of brand strategy and marketing at Five, confirmed the plans. 'Our Milkshake brand is very strong, so we are in ongoing talks about a channel launch,' he added.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV
Hi Media Boy, l have avery good question for you, can you please explain to me, WHY, we still have Ex-Telewest and Ex-NTL channels seperately, whereas, the company is VIRGIN MEDIA, l was always under the impression that when these two companies were taken over, surely, the companies then become one, it is very confusing.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV
Right here we go:
Before 2005 (Before NTL and Telewest joined up) NTL and Telewest both sign an deal with broadcasters - Sky give NTL nine Basic Channels but Telewest only signed an deal for THREE Basic Channels.
Virgin Media will not talk/sign an new deal with Broadcasters until they deals is about 6months from being up.

Further to Media Boy's answer: When two companies become owned by the same Parent Company due to a merger or acquisition or similar, within the new enlarged Group Company, the original companies remain distinct entities - "wholly-owned subsidiaries" is the usual term. Any contracts signed by the individual companies remain contracts with those individual companies, and unifying them requires renegotiation with each and every supplier the companies have individual contracts with. Often it is less hassle to simply allow existing contracts to run their course, and not to start negotiating unified contracts until the old ones have expired and it becomes time to sign new ones anyway.
When NTL Inc. changed the branding to Virgin Media, that is all it did. Just a new coat of paint. The staff, IT systems, contracts and everything else remained to all intents and purposes separate.
They have of course been working to properly unify the two companies behind the scenes, and the day the two channel line-ups become identical will be proof that one aspect of that work is complete.
