He has confirmed that 20MB, as well as 50MB, will be moving to Docsis3.

Well that should take some of the pressure off the servers for us lesser mortals.

The interesting thing will be if they remove STM at that stage or not. They keep harping on about the impact to the network of those that trigger STM, but now are commenting on the quantity of bandwidth that will be released by the analogue switch off and the movement of the XL subs to DOCSIS3

if it was me, I'd leave it a while. After a month or 3, crunch some numbers and see what the bandwidth utilisation would have been like without STM and if it would have been better, remove it then otherwise leave it in place

Re: VM start analogue switch off!
Anyone checked out the presentation Berkett made to investors? It confirms the shutdown of the analogue network and release of more bandwidth for faster broadband services...and possibly more TV too? I've posted my views on the VMHD blog, but you can read the full presentation here.

This will help push real world delivery speeds as close as possible to the advertised headline speeds..

That's quite an admission, better hope the ASA don't notice.
Good news about the switch off tho'.

Re: VM start analogue switch off!
One must wonder if there is a Region list, then we all know when people in our region will be Analogue-less.
The article at DS does seem to make a lot of sense, and also sounds very exciting, especially given the 2x8MHz to 2x24MHz changeover also.
Brundles comes up with a good point, though...

Re: VM start analogue switch off!
I must admit whilst having digital TV from Virgin I'm going to miss the Analogue channels 1-5 as I use them to view Teletext and no digital service currently carries the service which is a shame.
