Re: Virgin Media in talks over bringing back Sky
I've not been on the forums for some time now up untill the otherday purley because I've been to busy and had forgotten about this place (oh how could I, I know!)
When I came back and seen this post i was like "What the hell people still think Sky will come back!!?"
The chances of Sky coming back are a Million to One.
Its NOT GOING TO HAPPEN!
If it does well I wont be celebrating like some will.
Sky One is nothing special.
You see people going on about how they want Sky channels to come back but they most likley only want Sky One for the Simpsons or something.
I've not missed it nor will I be celebrating "if" it ever comes back nor will I watch it.

Can I stick a fiver on that?
IMO Sky will be coming back, it's just a question of when. But most likely not going to be till after a long drawn out court case. I wouldn't bet on it being this year, maybe not even next, but in the long term interests of both companies it makes sense to bring it back.

Re: Virgin Media in talks over bringing back Sky
I wonder if the losing party whoever it be will then give in and make sure Sky one comes back. Will either of them be able to swallow their pride? I hope the court rules in favour of VM so Sky is forced to bring the channels back and have it's wings clipped. Then all the customers are missing out will be able to have it back again.

But any Pratchett reader will be able to tell you million to one shots come off 9 times out of ten, whilst the H.G.Wells fans would tell you that the chances of anything coming from sky are a million to one, but still they come...
/goes off to take the dried frog pills.
Seriously though, whilst it would be nice from time to time to watch sky 1, i've only really missed it twice in the past years, and the hints as to when are above

Re: Virgin Media in talks over bringing back Sky
The Sky channels could still come back. Could virgin not just pay for sky one and not the other sky channels and get just sky one at a cheaper price?, as sky one is the only channel i would really like back.
I loved sky sports news but not really to botherd about that back as have it on freeview and got setanta sports news, not botred about sky two or sky news , and sky arts dont bother me one bit

AFAIK, that's not an option. Sky were only offering one package, which included all their basic channels. They were charging a higher price for it which Virgin were not willing/able to pay.

Re: Virgin Media in talks over bringing back Sky
I am glad that people say that the Sky basic package coming back to VM, is a million to one, well l would put money on it, no matter what anyone says, VM need the basics back, most of the basics, is better than what is on VM at the moment, and the majority of the people that l know, on VM want the basics back, l would say that VM are only going to court over this matter too prove a point, nothing else. Sky, will probabely, say to VM, pay this amount, and the customers will flood back to cable, there must be thousands of people, that cannot get a dish, due to where they live, will go to cable if there were ALL Sky channels were on it, and just think of all the channels available on VM, that they could fill, but remain empty.

Arthur, your point is well made.
Virgin Media DO want to prove a point, and the point is that it is not prepared to pay a premium price for a basic channel.
I and many others do not miss Sky One, or that poorer cousin to BBC News24, Sky News.

I doubt very much Dave that Sky would let VM cherry-pick from the basic channels, if that were the case apart from Sky 1 the remainder would be worth very little indeed.

If Sky One was provided on its own, the cost would be relatively more expensive and would provide even less value for money. I'm afraid as a channel it is not that good and it is vastly over-hyped. I couldn't wait to get Sky One when I first got cable but was very disappointed by the content of the channel.
People can keep wishing to have the Sky basics back but realistically, VM aren't going to give in now or Sky will just try it on in future years and the arguments will start all over again. Best to see it through now and show Sky that we will not put up with this kind of behaviour.

Indeed.
VM have done the right thing. They have stood up to a company that thinks it rules the media in this country, well i have news for Sky.
Your basic channel's are not worth a penny you should pay use to watch them
Please VM don't waste our subscriptions on Sky's crap very basic channels, There are far better channels you could spend that money on.

Re: Virgin Media in talks over bringing back Sky
I personally think Sky underestimated the potential for people to obtain the programs they were 'missing' by other means.
- which includes DVD, especially box sets
- and while we wait for those to come out, the x264 'previews' will have to do

Re: Virgin Media in talks over bringing back Sky
Let's put it this way, As far as l am aware, VM is up for sale, so therefore, l am a big investor, and l see VM as a good buy, but there is also Sky TV, that can provide TV to the UK customers, with it's vast amount of channels via dish, only problem is some people cannot have dishes, therefore this knocks, me to think great choose cable TV, but there is a legal problem, cuased by a ' point ' to prove, should l waste my money on buying into VM, who are being silly, by wasting any money l wish to out into a company, that might lose a huge court cost, l read on web sites, that customers want Sky channels, that VM won't supply, l don't think so, we all have to look at the wide area, customers do want the basic's back, no matter what offers VM throw at them, we are talking a lot of bucks here, this court case is going to cost thousands of pounds, that WE are going to pay for, by paying our subs for, we have to be realistic here, the case could take months, and the only people that are going to make any money, are the courts, and we end up with nothing.
