Re: Sub-titles for TV5 programmes

Thanks for further info. Setting the Telewest remote to sub-titles I can get all the usual channels with sub-titles but not Tv5 which at the moment is showing advocat at 18.00. Using the TV remote nothing happens when I try all the numbers suggested above incl 100, simply a coloured bar at the bottom.
So can anyone get sub-titles for TV5 in ex-Telewest area?

Re: Sub-titles for TV5 programmes

i know this sounds strange but im using hi grade gold plated scart leads & i just tried using the ones that can with my STB & im now getting teletext on TV5 & DW-TV which is very strange as i wasnt before when i was still using the old scart leads. for some reason the high grade scart leads remove teletext as i cant get teletext at all. does anyone know what the reason for this is at all ?

The STB probably won't be able to display the subtitles itself because they are not on the standard page 888.

Have you tried switching the STB output between RGB and composite to see whether that makes a difference? Which model STB do you have?

Yes, I've had it confirmed from somebody else in the Croydon area. And also the-cable-guy now.

Some TVs refuse to display teletext when in RGB mode. Maybe your cheap cable only has the composite pins connected. (What on earth gave you the idea to swap cables? )

Re: Sub-titles for TV5 programmes

the cheap scart leads have RGB so thats what didnt make sense to me. i thought to try the old scart leads as ever since i replaced them with the hi grade ones i haven been able to get teletext. is there anyway to fix this at all using the new scart leads ?

Ah, so your VCR/DVD was stripping the teletext. Marcel: Is your TV connected directly to the TV?

Re: Sub-titles for TV5 programmes

Thanks for latest spiderplant. It's a step forward to know that someone in my area, Croydon, can get sub-titles on TV5 even if i can't at present. I don't understand your question, "is your TV connected to your TV?"
It's beginning to look necessary for Virgin to sort this out. But not CS or one of their engineers. So far they have said what is TV5? and teletext isn't available on digital channels!

Ooops! I meant is the TV connected directly to the STB? (the-cable-guy had his going through his DVD/VCR, which was removing the teletext)

it seems that way yeah but i still think that its something to do with the hi grade scart leads as the others dont have this effect no matter how i connect them.

Re: Sub-titles for TV5 programmes

So do you use RGB or Composite? (Check in the display settings menu). And which SA box do you have - SA4000, SA4200 or V+?

You should get teletext on many channels. Have a dig about and see what you can find.

Re: Sub-titles for TV5 programmes

I have just received the advice of VM about these problems.
They say they don't know why some people get TV5 with sub-titles and not others.
They don't know why I can't get Teletext with page 100 and 794 etc
They also don't why TV5 is unable to provide programme information to indicate which films have sub-titles, if it can be received!
On the upside they say they will look into these matters.
