My neighbour has just bought a new 23" LCD TV (Sony I think) that has a setting which automagically adjusts the adverts volume to the same level as that of the programme he is watching. He is well chuffed with that one - as I would be !

Don't they realise that we retaliate by pressing the "mute" button until adverts are over, thus avoiding all the garbage instead of possibly just missing bits of it.

Any comments / views

dont know about the legality end of it,but i have to agree it does my head in.

if anyone dislikes it that much, try contacting OfCom to make a complaint.

It's why I hate those Cillit Bang ads so much..and I'd never buy ANY of the products because of it.

Re: Sound increase during adverts

Sound increase during ad breaks is really noticeable on Diva TV.

Whenever I'm watching the Late Show With David Letterman on there I have to turn the volume up about 5 notches more than I normally would for any other channel, then when an ad break comes on I get deafened.

So with Diva TV it seems more of a case of them just turning the sound down during programmes.

the reason they are changing it is so it is less ambiguous...

post #3 quotes "power levels" whereas the new guidelines specifically talk about sound levels.

previously broadcasters had been abusing the ambiguity. When the new guidelines come into force the rules are clear
