Tech/Install Question

I currently have Broadband only with virgin, I have read its the same cable as the tv and is connected to the tap point in the cab, thus in theory tv is live.
What i need to know is does the engineer have to come out and connect the cab to make it active or is it already live so all he has to do is come to my house and connect the tv box ( will be sub to tv).
I have read some enginers connect stuff in house and then go to cab then come back. I am only asking this as prefer all in one visit then i can goto work.
So is it as simple as giveing mea box or does work need done in cab?

Re: Tech/Install Question

The technicians/installer visit is required so they can check levels and if necessary move the tap point to give you the feed level you need. By using your same feed for both tv and modem you will need a splitter which will reduce your levels by over 3dB.

Re: Tech/Install Question

so the tv signal is already live?
aint that a bit wrong?, could it not be abused.
I would have thought Tv and Broadband would have to be activated seperate.

The analogue stuff will be switched off over the coming years. Digital is available but its encrypted. Current encryption will be changed.

Re: Tech/Install Question

I was talking about digital

what i was asking is, is the digital tv signal always live into the house if someone had broadband, or is the signal for tv disconnected in the cab and only broadband active, or are both active even though no tv decoder inatslled.

I get the feeling you aren't planning on calling Virgin to pay for their TV service are you?
I've said all I'm going to say. Call them and you won't have to worry about the technicalities. I don't approve of thieves, and most here don't.

Re: Tech/Install Question

its got nothing to do with that, i have paid for my subs, i am only questioning that as seen a cable come out of a cab into someones window.
in a round about way was asking if the install guy comes straight to my house and just plug in teh box he wont goto the cab and see the cable.
thats why i was asking if the tv is always live from the cab taps. or if its activated from the hub. if its activated seperate then no need to worry but if not then obvious someone is accessing the cab illegally
i do not appeciated being called a theif.

I didn't directly call you a thief, or theif. I stopped answering your queries.
When your installer comes round simply point out 'someones' window to them. Yes in most cases an installer needs to visit the cab.

It is NOT a fake box I have (I dont even have a box). I have orderd (PAID) for a V+ box and subscribed to it.

Why am i being accused to haveing fake boxes, all i am asking is a ligitamate question without reporting someone directly.

Re: Tech/Install Question

We just had TV & internet self install, no engineers called, you follow the instruction to connect the Vbox & then call a given phone number. The bloke then activates it whilst you watch the channel count go up on the Vbox & then ten minutes later he called back to check all was well. I should point out that the house was already cabled in from the road.
