Remote only works after about 5 minutes

It's been the same for months! I turn on the tv, then try to get the STB (PACE) out of standby. Zilch, then, after about 5 minutes the remote works.
Oh, and while I'm posting, why do we get 'no programme information' about 50% of the time on the guide?

The mini-guide is a ballache for me. Late at night lots and lots of channels show the info then quickly switch to "No Programme Information" or show the programme that is due 24 hours later!
Try changing your batteries in the remote control anyway. You'd be surprised how many people think their batteries are OK.

do you go in the room, switch on the light, then switch on the telly?

- If it is a fluorescent or energy saving bulb they can interfere with the remote signals until they are fully warmed up.

No idea about the guide, though

some flat screen TV's cause the same problem - whilst warming up they give out IR that completely blocks out the remote control

I had that problem at my girlfriends house, I changed the setting from dynamic to normal on her LCD and it's been fine ever since.
