NTL/Virgin DDNS for CCTV

Hi all

Just wondering if anybody has any luck on setting up DDNS on their NTL connection, iam trying to view a cctv system over broadband and getting stuck due to my NTL connection seams to have a public IP address and will only allow one device to be connected.

Heres what i have so far:

NTL Modem to a 3com hub - hub to pc - hub to CCTV DVR

I have set an account up at DinDYNs and NoIP would do the dynamic routing but have had no luck.

Anybody done this ?

You need a router, not a hub and use port forwarding on the router.

Is that a router instead of the NTL modem, and if so where can i find the account details / log on passwords etc for the NTL modem.

Re: NTL/Virgin DDNS for CCTV

You need

SACM --> router --> your devices.

Make sure you get a nonDSL router as they have modem inbuilt for ADSL type services.

Effectively this gives you your own network hidden behind your router. What you do there is your own affair.

Now you still only have one device connected to the outside world so what you need to do is tell the router that incoming connections on a certain port need to be routed to a certain device and port on the inside. This way you can also set up things so the outside port is completely different to that used by the camera. This is often regarded as a good thing since it can hide what you are serving.

Re: NTL/Virgin DDNS for CCTV

Tried a Netgaer RP614 setup DNS in the router and still cant get it to work, setup an acount with dyndns, they see the change etc in IP address but still cant view the cameras over the internet from a remote place.

It goes

Cable modem

Netgear router with port 80 & 50000 forwarded to 192.168.0.10 (which is the camera)

Any ideas.
