Interactive and red button all works fine for me and has done since the "new" Virgin Media code drop last year.

Re: Interactive

Engineer phoned earlier. The missus took the call and he apparently said that the service hadn't been updated to my area (Cardiff) because not enough people have complained!!

Anyway, he reset something at his end and a reboot seems to have cured the problem.

In that case, forget all that stuff about known problems. I was talking about the V+. The same problems don't exist on the Samsung 2110.

So what problem do you have with interactive? You said it normally works after a reboot - how long for?

Does On Demand work ok for you?

Both Interactive and On Demand work, just not all the time. It is quite random at when it suddenly crashes the box or just hangs.

It can work for a few days after a reboot, which I do daily anyway, because the box locks up when powering up from standby, a known 2110 issue on here, and Interactive/On Demand freezes of course.

Switching to Five, pressing Red and then going back to BBCi can make Interactive work.

So it might be Interactive service clashes, Reminders or some other clash/software issue.

That's interesting. Next time it doesn't work, try going to one of the BBC radio channels, and see whether the application works on those.

Sticking on standby is a hardware fault, so you'll have to get VM to swap the box if you want that fixed.

There are a few other posts on here that have the standby fault.

I switch mine off at the mains now, as the reboot makes Interactive/On Demand more reliable and no lock ups.

The TV Guide Info Bar and the Five background Interactive image goes opaque sometimes aswell.

Re: Interactive

My box is very fast using Interactive, as fast as, if not faster than Freeview/Sky.

Is it a batch of Samsung 2110 boxes that have a faulty power supply, or all of them?

Re: Interactive

I got my box March 2006, is that ok?

The BBC Press Red prompt is not even showing up today and non of the Interactive or On Demand is working on any channel, again!

I think it could be the African Nations Cup that is causing this. Either it isn't compatibly properly, or more likely too many people are trying to access it and the Virgin system can't cope.

I got into BBC radio once.

I don't know the exact dates of the problem boxes, but March 2006 sounds too early. Maybe it is something else after all. Try not putting it in standby for a few days and see how it behaves.

There isn't really a system that needs to cope. With the odd exception, the interactive applications are sent to the boxes in much the same way as the TV pictures. They are broadcast to everybody all the time and the STB just chooses to receive them when it needs to. So it makes no difference how many people are using them.

That said, the system that transmits the applications isn't the most reliable, and goes wrong occasionally. So it could be that, it could be a fault in the way the application was written, or it could be something wrong with your box. Did you try a reboot?

Re: Interactive

The last code drop seemed to have solved my 'Standy' problem, I put it standby every night now and it's always woke up so far!

As for the interactive, that's hit and miss! Works when you don't need it and doesn't when you do The return path light has always been on!

I have these errors in the Settings Menu FWIW:

20/01/08-23:06:12 (177) Tftp Put fail: data write error
16/01/08-16:42:08 (177) Tftp Put fail: data write error
16/01/08-15:11:40 (177) Tftp Put fail: data write error
16/01/08-15:09:40 (176) Tftp Put fail: network not ready
16/01/08-15:09:29 (177) Tftp Put fail: data write error

The one for today changed the time when I used BBCi (which did work)!

Re: Interactive

The BBCi Press Red prompt came back late Sunday afternoon and it's been ok since.

A reboot didn't fix it.

This last happened last spring when the sports multiscreens didn't work, as posted on here by several people at the time.

It must be the way they are transmitting it then, or not, as the Press Red didn't show and then did after a while.
