As they go IPTV next year, that's not long to wait. However, the news (if correct) that we will have to wait for some years after that before we get more HD is truly alarming!

As for Moroboshi's comment that they will be closing down their TV platform, well, with respect, that's just plain bonkers! Why would they be spending money on IPTV if that was their intention?

I have no idea, but how then can you explain their total lethargy with all things TV? They have absolutely no interest in HD, well know that. They have a passing interest at best in VOD, which they talk up to sign people up but the amount of content available is comically small. They also have long since fallen way behind Sky in SD content and regularly fail to add new channels when they start up. And of course the final straw for many is their lack of the regular Sky channels, with their line-up of popular shows such as Lost.

They don't seem like a company with any interest in TV to me. The platform is stagnating very badly, and they are doing absolutely nothing to put things right. I suspect their promises of IPTV are empty, and it will never see reality.

812. Alpha ETC Punjabi
833. Phoenix CNE
861. BBC One England
862. BBC One Scotland
863. BBC One Northern Ireland
864. BBC One Wales

NOTE: EMap Radio channels: ( Magic, Q, The Hits, Kiss 100, Kerrang!, Smash Hits! ) have all been sold to H Bauer.

======== Virgin Media Electric! news =======
In this months ''Electric!' Virgin Media have make an list of channels that are on both networks but I noted the following Ex-ntl Radio channels in it.

NO. Channel name
929. Q Radio
935. Magic
962. The Hits
963. Kiss FM

TV Boy Thinks: Virgin will keep Bauer Radio Channels, BBC TV and Radio Channels, Nat Geo +1, Motors TV, History channel +1 and ZEE channels and drop the rest.

I know that some radio channels are on Ex-Telewest in some parts of the UK and they will stay but will need to move all the BBC Radio channels that are only on NTL to new channels numbers so that all the Virgin Networks (Ex-ntl and Ex-Telewest) viewers can have them.

WHY DO WE NEED TO SWITCHOVER?
Switchover is a complicated process, and needs to be done in stages so that everyone in the country will be ready for it.

The best way to check which TV region you are in is by seeing which ITV news service you receive or by going to Teletext page 106.

*The Channel Islands will be switching over to fully digital TV and this is currently scheduled for the first quarter of 2013. The actual dates for switchover in the Channel Islands are subject to negotiations with France.

Don’t worry; you'll get plenty of notice before services in your area are affected, and advice on what to do.

More info here: http://www.digitaluk.co.uk/when

Info from DigitalUK.

======== Virgin Analogue TV news =======

Virgin will be starting the Analogue switch off soon. They will also upgrade some currently analogue areas to digital.
Virgin Media has initiated a scheme to shutdown it’s analogue Cable TV network..
Currently, around 200,000 Virgin subscribers only have analogue TV.
Virgin has begun a program of area by area upgrades, but this is a long term program and at this point in time, it is unknown how many areas actually will get upgrades. It is also possible that Virgin will not upgrade everyone in some areas.
Some customers will actually be forced off the network, but Virgin claim this will be a small number.

Re: Coming soon to Virgin Media 2008.

Thankyou, that was very useful!

Wonder why FX(A Fox Channel) is not included as part of BskyB as its the same company right? Meaning Virgin could loose FX if its merged with Sky.

Re: Coming soon to Virgin Media 2008.

well FX and SKY are not the same company

sky (bskyb plc) is a public company withmany many share holders.
fox (owners of FX) is another public company with many different shareholders.

the simalarity is that BOTH have "news corp international" as their biggest single shareholder (but by no means majority). murgin fox and bskyb would bee VERY expensive as it would mean (persumably news corp) buying the public shares in both companys (assuming the majority of shareholders agree to sell up). so i doubt we'll loose FX anytime soon over the sky basics despute. though theres proberlly a gentlemens agreement between the directors both companys (ruport (daddy) murdock at fox, and james (son) murdock at sky) which would explain why theres never been any suggestion on VM gettinf FXHD

Have to say, use I player more & more though.
That's what the Favourites button is for.

If you signed the contract for the broadband and are letting other people, whom you do not implicitly and completely trust, use it then ... well you get the idea. Basically, you are still responsible for how it is being used.

In answer to your question, the originating IP address will identify the offending machine (but not necessarily the offending user).

There is a constant debate here about lack of HD but does anyone know how many people actually have HD TVs and, of those, how many have V+ boxes? I've only had a wide-screen TV for a couple of years but still some channels have yet to go wide (and indeed stereo).

With regard to the lack of Sky channels (so that you can see your favourite programme 'Lost'), again that has been a constant subject for debate and my feeling is that Sky is to blame for its anti-competitive practices by demanding a huge hike in fees from VM. If VM had to pass on the charge to its customers in order to supply the Sky basic channels, that might give Sky an edge on its retail price to the public. Anyway, I still think a two-way interactive cable system has considerable advantages over what is, in pratical terms, a one-way satellite system.

It must be difficult for VM as a cable company as they don't automatically have 98% (I think) coverage of the UK as Sky do. I'm not sure what VM's current coverage is and at what, if any, rate they are expanding but it's a slow and expensive process.

I agree, The point I was making is that for all the channels Virgin have, most of them I never look at, & at a guess I would speculate that anything likely to appear know would be way down on most peoples lists.
Really what are the ratings likely to be for JJB sports?. Do we really what more shopping channels? I can`t think of any thing else I would want. More HD would be great. Sorry if this lets the side down.
