Yeah it would be nice to think so, but I doubt it. I bet VM justify it by saying XL customers now get all the Setanta channels free now, never mind that we lost the Sky ones.

There has been loads of content added to XL TV over the past year including increased content on TV choice, free music on demand and, of course, the Setanta Sports channels which are rumoured to be costing Virgin up to £2.50/month per xl subscriber, and that's without even taking inflation into account.

Fair comment, but when we lost the Sky channels VM said they wouldn't be giving people a refund because they believed people would rather they put the money into new programming. They cant have it both ways.

Sky one, sky news & sky sports news were not exclusive to xl tv in the first place, they were included in the basic Size M TV pack which is free with a phone line.
New programming has cost a lot more than the cost of the Sky basics, then you have inflation on top. Add the cost Sky were asking and you'd be talking about a £3 increase not £1 (with e-Billing). As it is, Virgin's XL pack is now better today than it was before the Sky basics were removed, it has improved to such an extent that it now p****es all over Sky's inferior 6 mixes which already cost £21 for a fraction of the content that Virgin offers.

I would love to see this amount of channels launch on cable, but I doubt very much we will have this quantity of new channels within 2 years, let alone 2 months.
How VM choose to use their bandwidth freed up by the analogue shut down, is known only to them. Do not assume it means huge quantities of new channels. If they wanted to launch lots of new channels, they could do that today. They choose not to.

Re: Coming soon to Virgin Media 2008.
I don't think we will get the benefit of all that additional bandwidth until all the analogue services are closed down. We're probably looking at the turn of the year before that happens.
However, that's not to say that we may get some additional bandwidth to play about with soon for other reasons. I think there was an indication that some extra bandwidth would be made available in March/April.
Well, it's April....
