BREAKING NEWS - GCAP MEDIA HAS SOLD PLANET ROCK
GCap Media has finally disposed of Planet Rock to an unnamed third party, much to the annoyance of Brian May who was close to buying the station.
The Queen lead guitarist is "shocked and hugely disappointed" that GCap Media have sold the station to a third party, without informing him of a change of plan. Planet Rock is now out of reach, May said on his website today.
Quote:
Our chaps have been pressing on with GCAP's lawyers, finalising the arrangements, the principles having been agreed a few weeks ago, but, out of the blue, we heard a rumour that someone else was involved, and this morning someone 'unofficially' confirmed that rumour.
We have no idea if the people who have bought Planet Rock plan to keep it running or not. I guess we can just hope that it will still be 'saved', but without us ...
It's such a shame ... we had such plans ...
Well, there ya go. Thanks GCAP. Thanks for a load of wasted time. Well, it's still a small world.

It will be a vod service that includes iplayer according to this report:
http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/2007/nov/27/bbc.itv
I'm hoping that it will be available through on demand on VM but don't know if this will be feasible or not. There are obvious advantages for both parties so let's hope.
The report does say:
The service will initially be available via the web, with shows available either streamed or to download. However, the ultimate aim is to deliver Kangaroo content direct to televisions.
If this is the case what better way to deliver content to TVS than the tried and tested method employed by VM.
I think it will happen but I'm wondering if it will cost us. I'm a big fan of vod and use it regularly. Personally I'd rather VM invest in this sort of content than the content previously provided by Sky.

Re: Coming soon to Virgin Media 2008.
It would be nice if the iplayer worked in a different way to VOD as my VOD services don't always work and occasionally I have to reboot the box a few times for it to work.

Re: Coming soon to Virgin Media 2008.
I notice that I have 283 channels today, one more than earlier this week. Anyone know what has appeared recently?
Ex-NTL (Bromley platform), Pace DiTV2000 STB in Aylesbury (branch of Watford).

Re: Coming soon to Virgin Media 2008.
On the Ex-Telewest I have lost one channel today I now have 283/291 channels but no channels has been removed so I think it something to do with BBC On Demand being renamed BBC Iplayer on ''Catch up TV on Demand''.

Re: Coming soon to Virgin Media 2008.
4Music may start on June 6th as the Hits are showing ''Channel off air'' on my V+ Box from 6am next Friday but all Bauer Group/Channel 4 listings continue to work.
