Re: Coming soon to Virgin Media 2008.
The BBC has petitioned the Trust to extend BBC3's hours into the afternoon, and is planning to give some of the extra space to its teen strand Switch.
Info from Broadcast.

Re: Coming soon to Virgin Media 2008.
Extended BBC3 hours should be good, but I really hope they get some new programmes on board.

A response from the trust isn't expected until 2009.

Re: Coming soon to Virgin Media 2008.
.....now that is a coming "soon" item and a significant one too, unlike the 99% of rubbish on here.
When that technology is rolled out, all cable tv channels will be served to customers like VOD rather than broadcast as is currently the case now.
I'd imagine they'd be a new EPG and new stbs to go along with this too.

Re: Coming soon to Virgin Media 2008.
....I doubt very much VM will remove any more channels, if they did there wouldn't be many left! But, with the IPTV technology this gives VM the option to change the way the tv channels are delivered to us.
Currently all tv channels are broadcast to everyone, a bit like how water, gas and electricity is distributed to all. But with IPTV, the broadcast of channels can be stopped and channels can be sent via on demand. To be clear, what the customer sees is the same, just the way it's distributed to the customer may change eventually.

Re: Coming soon to Virgin Media 2008.
how would this effect people without broadband?
What benefit would virgin get by doing this?

Doesn't everybody have 20Mb+ broadband? Doesn't everybody have some form of internet access? Many TV adverts assume the latter "... for details visit www.oursite.co.uk/offer ..." [without the trailing slash thereby doubling the traffic]. But I digress (and rant).
I guess the idea is that if you have cable TV now, you already have the delivery mechanism for IPTV, the same way that VoD works currently. You don't have to be a broadband internet customer to get it. Virgin Media may even be intending to put fibre optic into customers' premises. At that point, the broadband internet may be bundled with the TV anyway.
All pure speculation but plausible.

Re: Coming soon to Virgin Media 2008.
In this months ''Electric!' Virgin Media have make an list of channels that are on both networks but I noted the following Ex-ntl Radio channels in it.
EPG Channel name
929 Q Radio
935 Magic
962 The Hits
963 Kiss FM
964 Kerrang Radio
966 Smash Hits Radio
So it look to me like they are coming soon to Ex-Telewest.

Re: Coming soon to Virgin Media 2008.
could be, however knowing VM's track record it may take them months to sort it out.
