Re: Coming soon to Virgin Media 2008.
Due to the passing of the July 1st deadline to bring the missing Star channels to the VM network Star have sent me the following email.
Hello Sakib,
We have been negotiating with VM regarding carriage of these two channels, so our cable customers can enjoy them as well as our Sky customers, however we have not been able to reach any viable business agreement with them.
I would recommenc you call VM and ask them why they do not air these channels. If they become aware that more and more of their viewers would like to watch these channels, they will be more forthcoming in agreeing a business proposal with us to bring these channels to their platform.
Currently, there is no agreement in sight unfortunately.
Regards, STAR Customer Care

Saki,
Whilst I have no interest in this channel I understand your frustration. This again is typical of VM not providing a service that their customers want or indeed pay for. HD channels are another example, losing the Sky channels another.
When will this company listen to it's paying customers? Then again with the government not listening to it's public what chance have you got getting your channels!

Re: Coming soon to Virgin Media 2008.
UEFA Cup in the UK from Season 2009/2010 will be as followed:
UEFA Cup TV rights agreements have been given to Five, ITV and Setanta Sports to broadcast live UEFA Cup matches in the United Kingdom from 2009 to 2012.
Under the deal they will have:
Five - 1st pick of matches in each round as well as the final and a comprehensive highlights package. The deal guarantees the channel 15 live Uefa Cup games a year over the whole period for the competition in which four British teams are expected to be involved.
ITV - 2nd pick of seven games, five so-called 3rd picks and three 4th picks throughout the tournament. From 2009, ITV’s games will be predominantly shown on digital channel ITV4 – with kick-offs scheduled for 6.05pm or 8.05pm as part of the new competition format.
Setanta Sports acquired the rights for 32 live games per season, including 17 from the Uefa Cup group stages, six from the rounds 32 and 16, two quarter finals and one semi-final. Based on the recent performance of British teams, it is anticipated that Setanta will exclusively show 18 games involving British teams. The matches will be shown on Setanta 1 and Setanta 2.
Both ITV and Setanta also secured highlights rights.

You need to understand that Virgin Media PAY to have these channels on the EPG, and that can run into THOUSANDS of Pounds. If there isnt believed to be enough of a Subscriber-base to have it, then they wont.
If Star are asking too much money, as Sky have done, Virgin wont do it.
You have to think about this. There is no point paying, say £10,000 for a channel per annum, for 50 people to watch it.
Thats what annoyed me about them removing Scuzz, because that channel was popular. It was watched by thousands and thousands of people, yest they still got rid.

Well I don't think that is quite true, because the new IPTV box will be able to combine broadband and TV for display on television sets. This will enable us to watch 'normal' TV together with programmes from the internet.
I guess we will just have to wait for the rollout of the new boxes next year.
