Question DVD recorder causing STB re-boot

Hello All,

I have a SA4200 STB to which is connected a Cyberhome 1600 DVD recorder via a scart connection.

When I set the DVD recorder to stand-by my STB re-boots.
It does this every time. Does anyone have any ideas as to why?

Here's my scart cabling....

STB--->---|DVD rec|-->---TV ext2

->Scart Switch|---->--------TV ext1

Cheers in advance.

Re: DVD recorder causing STB re-boot

I know, it's got me flummoxed too.
I cannot think of any rational reason why this should happen.
Unfortunately, I can't go swapping cables out willy-nilly as it's all wired into a large TV/AV unit that only gets dismantled about twice a year for a proper clean (the last time was a week ago!).
I should add that this was when the DVD recorder was added as a replacement for a Tosh VCR/DVD player. The problem never came up with this and I'm using all the same cables.

Re: DVD recorder causing STB re-boot

the scart system has spare pins that were never fully implemented some manufacturers use the spare conx to send data so that if you have all the same make of equipment they talk to each other and auto tune etc sometimes this creates a problem when you mix n match (grundig were bad for it) if i were you i would connect the dvd to the cable stb direct with nothing else and then try again its a process of elimination really

Asda sell a 9-pins-connected scart cable for under £1, which has solved a couple of problems in my set-up. Google 'scart pin-out' to find what they all do.

Re: DVD recorder causing STB re-boot

Interesting.
I suppose an alternative is, as the (cheapo) DVD rec only inputs composite, I could just attach a set of composite video and audio L/R cables and do away with the scart connection completely.

Re: DVD recorder causing STB re-boot

I had a similar problem recently, when my Panasonic DVD recorder started playing up. Every time an error code came up on the recorder it would mute the sound on the TV. Even if the scart was then removed, or the recorder unplugged from the mains, the TV would remain muted until I changed channel or turned the TV off & on again.

The error must have sent a signal down one of the pins that latched the TV into mute mode.

btw...do you have the same problem if you put the DVD recorder in standby by it's front panel button? I was just wondering if the remote control was also activating the STB.

sabastion200 is an unknown quantity at this point
Re: DVD recorder causing STB re-boot

i have the same cyber home DVD recorder there is nothing that will effect any stb with i. I know this as i have tried all models and all 3 pace both samsung and i have tried the V+ stb. the wiring you have discribed is also incorrect the box does not require 2 connections to the tv as the dvd will auto bypass.

VIDEO ---- STB ----- Av1 on dvd recorder ---- Av2 on dvd recorder --- to TV

the cyber home dvd recoder is an inline dvd recorder. if you touch the back of the scart from the DCD recorder and feel static thats the fault and it is coming from what ever you feel the static from.

your XBOX then can go stright to AV2 on your TV i hope this helps

Re: DVD recorder causing STB re-boot

The reason I have the wiring as described (yes, it is correct) is that my tv only supports RGB input on the AV1 input. Therefore, if I wish to get an RGB input from both my STB and Xbox, I have to run it throught a scart switch that supports RGB so I don't have to go fumbling around at the back everytime.
The DVD recorder does not support RGB, therefore it seems superfluous to put it on the same line. For simplicity it is kept on a different input.
If there is any chance of a short inside the DVD recorder, there is no way I'll be touching any scart pins as I don't know what sort of voltage is going to hit me. (You don't know my ex-wife by any chance, do you? )

Thanks all the same.

EDIT: To XFS03, the problem shows up both with the remote and the panel button.
