interference during playback of dvd-rw since cable installed

Hi. I recently had Virgin cable installed (not V+) and connected my setup by putting aerial cable into set top box and cable between set top and DVD recorder. I also connected DVD recorder to set top by scart. There is a scart between set top and tv and cable from dvd recorder to tv and scart between dvd and tv. Basically, I followed instructions on the link below:

http://www.which.co.uk/reports_and_c...57_79271_2.jsp

However, when I try to record from a cable channel to dvd there is a lot of interference when I playback-kind of watery lines and I have watched some dvds that I copied prior to cable and the playback quality seems poorer. Cable seems to show on channel E1 on my TV(??) but the DVD seems to try and record off channel E2 which is of a lesser quality. Sorry this is a bit convoluted but any ideas if I have set up wrongly or what I can do to improve playback and recording? Thanks.

Which channel on your tv do you watch your your dvd recorder on?From your description of the interference it sounds like your not watching it via the scart connection.
I would remove the dvd to tv scart the dvd will then playback by looping through stb and you will then have to record cable via e1 on dvd.

assuming you have followed the connections suggestion for 'watch & record sky or virgin' & you still get this problem, you may need to double check that the relevant devices are set to RGB, not composite ???

Re: interference during playback of dvd-rw since cable installed

Thanks for quick replies. The stb is tuned to E1 but the DVD recorder seems to be on E2. When the DVD programme channel is set on anything other than AV2 there is no picture but sound from one of the terrestrial channels. When it is set to AV2 I can see the cable channel but sometimes can still hear the sound from the terrestrial channel which I suppose accounts for the interference. I tried removing the DVD to TV scart but couldn't get any playback.
My DVD is a Sharp DV-RW 360H. I looked at instructions for connecting to external equipment and tried turning off stb while playing back-this works but still got interference. It says that the AV2 connection is useful for playback only. It also says that even if the external equipment can be delivered on RGB and TV accepts them, the DVD only records a Composite signal. Does this make it any clearer?
