Question Loooooooong error message

Can someone please help me identify the error number for the error message in the attachment?

The people at the call centre keep asking for it, and they don't understand why I can't give it to them.

At least if I can quote an error number to them then they stand a chance of working out what the problem is!

There is no error number displayed on that message - the message is too long to fit in the "pop up" window.

It might be possible to change the display format, if you can enter your STB's display settings option menu (use the remote control's settings function) from widescreen to another format, but if the STB isn't working properly that might not be available.

Try powering off the STB, remove the smart card, wipe on a clean dry cloth, replace, and reboot the STB.

Is this a new STB and has it previously worked OK?

That's what I've tried to explain to the callcentre on at least three occasions.

The 4:3 format error message displays identically to the widescreen one.

Tried that - powering it off overnight seemed to work for about five minutes. I suspect a dead box, but without the error code the callcentre couldn't diagnose the problem.

It's a newish replacement box - my previous box failed last autumn (stuck at BOOT stage for about 10 minutes).

The only problem I've had recently was about a month ago when the box "forgot" the PIN after an update.

Update:

The callcentre has given up trying to get the error number from me - they're sending an engineer out instead.

If anyone can help with the error code, please post it here anyway. It might prevent others going through what I've just been through!

If you press home, settings, technical stuff, and look for card status, What does it say?

Card Status: Waiting

Just below card status there's an "event log" that's full of messages saying:

(82) Card but driver can't talk to it

Looks like the box can't read the card, you need a box swap

I came to the same conclusion - the trouble was trying to convince the callcentre of that. Without the 4 digit error code for guidance they were completely lost!

One theory I have is that my box's firmware is corrupt.
It would explain why the PIN number "vanished" last month, why the driver can no longer talk to the card, and would even explain the bizarre error message - it's using the wrong font size!

Re: Loooooooong error message

or the box hasnt been paired with the card properly?

Last december we had a new samsung 2110c box installed but Ntl (as they were then) were updating their systems, so we were given what was known as a hot box (a box pre-loaded with the full package), anyways the box decided to lose the preloaded channels and we were left with 0 channels apart from bbc 1 2 itv and channel 4, for 3 days, anyways im certain i was getting the same message when we tried to view channels that werent free, and as you say you recently got the new box that could be a reason. Faults will say it requires a tech call out but, it doesnt, all you need to do is quote the smart card number, and give them the serial number of the STB, and they will be able to pair them up and you should be able to recieve your channels.

----
I really should learn to read posts before replying....

Have you tried removing the smart card and putting it back in... are there any scratches or marks on the smart card around where the "chip" bit is?

hey Adyb!

That call centre you talked to is probably in West India, and if thats the case, they are usually lost at the best of times.

It is strange how the writing doesnt even fit the box! Ive never heard of that before, but thanks to you, its on here now so others can search for it in the future!

Re: Loooooooong error message

Thanks to everyone who's posted on this thread.

The technician came yesterday morning and after a few minutes looking at various diagnostics screens decided to replace my old Pace box with a nice new FAST Samsung 2110C.
