Re: Setanta picture
Terrible picture here in Notts for the Stevenage v Oxford game. Seriously pixellated on the long distance movement shots. If I'd paid any money for it I'd ask for it back.
Edit: And then just as I'd finished posting, the picture went black for a second and reappeared in much better quality.

Thats strange, if I try to access Setanta Sports 1 on freeview I get the channel encrypted warning.
Jim.

Re: Setanta picture
You will need a viewing card Jimbo, plus a decoder or one of these if your TV has a slot AFAIK

Re: Setanta picture
I noticed the picture did improve, but it was still showing compression artifacts nonetheless!

My freeview is built into our 42 inch plasma Panny. It is a great picture most of the time but it really shows up the poor quality of the Setanta output.
I didn't think it is was 'free' on freeview, I don't pay extra for it it being on the VIP package, definitely would not pay £10.00 pm for it.
Jim.

You are quite right.
Whilst channel hopping later on the same day as my post I noticed Setanta1 was marked as encrypted.
Strangely, for an encrypted channel, it is listed when the "Free TV" profile is active?
The only thing I can think of to explain it is that "maybe" only certain games are encrypted?
I've not tried to watch it since so have no further info.

it might be like premplus where they will show a run up to the match and then encrypt it if you haven't ordered it

Re: Setanta picture
I'm still not happy with the picture format. Fair play they've taken off the AFDs so the STBs aren't forced into displaying 16:9 letterbox on 4:3 TVs, but they're not broadcasting AFD's on 4:3 programs to force the box into fullscreen mode so unless your box is set to 4:3 zoom then the picture is still a postage stamp. BBC, ITV, Channel 4 and numerous others manage to do this, why not Setanta? I don't want to keep having to switch from letterbox to fullscreen. I wouldn't mind so much if there was a quick way to do it, ie using a colour key when the search and scan banner is displayed
eg. BBC Three showing Family Guy with the STB set to 4:3 letterbox will show it in fullscreen on a 4:3 TV rather than showing the pillarboxed 16:9 frame.
