Picture glitches on Setanta Sports 1?

Have just tuned into the Villa v Liverpool match and am noticing a lot of picture glitches; are these transmission problems that I'm noticing or is this just me?

Re: Picture glitches on Setanta Sports 1?

I did in the first half several times. OK second half.
Glad someone else noticed it. Only got the TV package this morning and wondered it was an issue at my end.

Definitely a bit 'smudgey' the Setanta picture and very much like the bad old days of Sky Sports and ITV Sport.

Nice to have Jon Champion commentating on Premiership games, though

If you are talking about freezing, picture breaking up into blocks, picture jumping along with sound glitches.

Any or all of these indicate that the power level is too low at the input to your box. The reason that all the other channels are fine apart from the Setanta ones is because the Setanta ones are transmitted at a higher frequency than your other channels.

The only solution is to ring VM and arrange for an engineer to visit your property.

Edit: Anyone just complaining about the overall quality of the picture, this is usually down to a low bit rate and is nothing to do with Virgin Media. For my own part, I thought that the picture on Setanta Sports One on VM was very good. I was viewing on a 32 inch CRT. Anyone viewing on a TV larger than this OR any LCD TV, may well judge any football channel to have a "poor" picture.

For me it wasn't like this. The sound was fine. It was like the horizontal hold had gone for 5-10 seconds.

Anyway, it didn't happen again after the first half so it was probably a one-off.

I thought the picture was fine on my CRT TV (RGB SCART connection)

Yes, probably a one-off in your case.

Yes - I've had an engineer out 5 times now sadly and I'm watching it on a 32" CRT. Samsung seems fine though problems are on the V+. I really do think there is a problem with the V+ or more specifically my V+. VOD hardly ever works on it as opposed to the Samsung where I have more chance of watching something on demand.

i am suffering this same problem since saturday morning but on ALL channels started at 10am which is some coincidence as there was an engineer over the road at another property, could they have changed my cable to another lower power in the head ?

just seems too much of a coincidence

its a possibility,if the cabinet is over-subscribed they put 2 and 3 way splitters on 1 tap and 2 or 3 drop cables on the splitters, you will then suffer a loss of signal as there is a loss through every outlet on the splitters.

Re: Picture glitches on Setanta Sports 1?

thats exactly what i thought because we did have low power problems a few years ago and were put on a higher power in the street box, but the person whoever my mum phoned yesterday was certain that engineers cant do that, but the guy who told us this does'nt know NIT from NLT, a manager was supposed to have phoned us back but still awaiting a call, lol i feel sorry for the person who does get it

i managed to catch the engineer in the street who was at another property and he promised to com look at it but did a runner, and i know for sure it was a new/reconnection cause they pulled up the street cover outside out house and also had the box street head box cover off aswell grrrr

too much of a damned coincidence if u ask me lol

-=edit=-

just checked the tech page on my cable box, DHCP return patch is off, IP in undefined, 27892 Pre RS errors per 0.5s, AGC=99, conn status= 3- tx ramping to sign on, logs are full of CM ranging failures and CM not authorised

we have two paces boxes in the house and they are both affected by it, i atleast get some kinda of pictures upstairs, while the one downstairs just sits on tune, both boxes collapsed at the same time as these engineers where in the street

Well, there you go. The engineer has moved you lower down in the green box to accomodate your neighbour.

The fact that you have 2 boxes means that you have a splitter in your property, which degrades the signal even further.

You need an engineer at your property ASAP. Ring up and tell them that all your pictures on both boxes are freezing and breaking up.
