Question Best recording options??

I've just recently upgraded to digital and currently only have an ordinary VCR for recording. The obvious problem without a PVR is the usual one of being unable to watch another programme while recording. Thus I'm looking at investing in something which would allow me that luxury, but am rather unsure about what I'm supposed to get. I can't afford to upgrade to Virgin's offering as that's a regular monthly payment, and would prefer to buy a one-off solution if possible. I'm wondering about the Twin Tuner DVD recorders with F/V that appear to allow for what I'm looking for, BUT if I opt to get one of those, how will it affect my Cable viewing? Given I'm only on the £30 package I presume too that maybe getting one of these will leave my cable channels a bit obselete since most are already available on F/V anyway. But if that's the only price I have to pay it would be worth it as I could obviously cut the TV down to the lowest package available and save more money perhaps. Just want to make sure I look at the right hardware - I don't record an awful lot as I'm disabled and my home setup actually makes it easier for me to download and view many of the programmes I like to watch, onto my PC anyway, but there are still some I like to get from the TV like my soaps.

Appreciate any thoughts and suggestions. TIA

Re: Best recording options??

Hello all,

Same for me really except I don't even have a video recorder and with the footy season looming I need to get some kind of recording system in place.

I know VM do a PVR option but looks a bit costly, installation £150?

So I was thinking of buying a dvd recorder but is it easy to set up so I can watch one channel and record another (by the way I no longer have a tv arial).

Any guidance would be great.

Regards,

David.

Unfortunately if you only have a standard V box connected to a DVD recorder you can only record the channel your watching.

Re: Best recording options??

If you don't have an ariel, get one fitted.
What you need is either
1.) dvd/hard disc recorder, (80meg is enough unless there is a lot of people using it) and a freeview box.(usually under £30)
2.) dvd/ hard drive recorder with freeview built in.
This means if you have plugged in the recorder to freeview it will record that, and you can watch cable or vice versa
What you CAN'T do is record cable and watch another cable channel unless you have two cable boxes.
wiring them all up is already covered somewhere on the forum.
