Shocked And Disgusted

My box has just been updated with the new software,
Have to say i would much rather go back to the old software even if it did do my head in with the speed.

i'm already missing the channel rearranging feature and quite a few other features which have suddenly gone from my brain while writing this.

Is there any way of going back to the old software?

Trust me a slow one is much better than one that always freezes.

I'm still trying to find anything that is better than the old ntl version.

The loss of favourites being able to be ordered as the customer wants it is IMO significant and very much a step in the wrong direction. Do the people that write this sort of software actually get views from customers before mass launches?

I'm also getting extremely annoyed that every day my Samsung seems to lock up for a couple of minutes, when I first start to use the remote with messages that "some settings are being updated".

Well I will say that since I have had the new epg my pace box has not suffered one freeze in the last month. That is heaven compared to the old epg, but the loss of the channel move option is a big negative. If they could just sort out the slow red button it would at last be acceptable.

I was informed by an engineer that if you switch of the box for 5 mins everyday then the boxes should not freeze up, something about memory leakage in the new EPG software.

He also said that they are having problems with the red button and if possible try not to use it.

Yep that's practical with broadband via STB

They probably did that, coz when a channel advertises, ie Sky channel xxx and Virgin channel xxx, if u have changed the channel no's, u cant find that channel, if u see what I mean!

Except that in all software releases from CR3.1 onwards the channel numbers were locked to their default settings regardless of how you ordered the channels in the Favourites menu. It was only with CR1 and CR2 code that the channel numbers changed to user generated numbering on the stb.

The new Virgin EPG has taken a real step backwards in user-friendliness by not allowing customization of the Favourites now that its no longer possible to group channels and dump unsubscribed rubbish out of the way at the bottom of the EPG.

I can only agree with Rob's sentiments about the EPG modifications being a step in the wrong direction - it would be good if the software coders would reinstate this small, but very useful function. Oh, and return the non V+ EPG back to three days as well.
