Question MATV and Digital Switchover

Hi

I'm currently a MATV 'customer' and was wondering if anybody knows what will happen to this signal when the digital switchover occurs? I have asked everyone I can think off but no one seems to have an answer. I can't install an aerial as I live in a dip and there is three high rise flats between me and the terrestrial transmitter and I begrudge paying twice just to receive basic channels (TV License and subscription whether Virgin or Sky).

Any help would be appreciated

Re: MATV and Digital Switchover

If you go to Virgin for a phone line,
you will get a digibox for free.

Btw, as a MATV customerpresumably you do not pay cable any money, but what channels do you get?
I guess someone in your flat previously had a cable connection and that your TV is hooked up to this

Re: MATV and Digital Switchover

Hi prof.

I think the simple answer is you're stuffed. If it's not in the clear on satellite then FTA isn't the answer, and when analogue cable gets switched off you'll have to pay Virgin whatever you can agree with them for the digital service.

Unfortunately for you, Leicester is fully digitally serviced, so it's not one of those areas where analogue is the only service. If it was, it'd be with you for longer.

But stick with it. I'd only believe that your analogue service is switched off when you see it with your own eyes. Until then, keep watching!

No I don't pay anything apart from my TV license and my dwelling was connected when cable was installed around hear due to the difficulties with receiving TV around here

Re: MATV and Digital Switchover

If you're really on MATV then, come the switchover, you'll get digital television down the cable. All you'll have to do is wander down to Tesco and buy a cheap Freeview box - with no subscription.

? You can put a freeview STB from Tesco on a Terrestrial aerial but not on cable.

No is the answer, whenever they decide to turn off the Analogue signal is one thing, the situation your in, and others, will have to be sorted out separately. Haven't a clue when it's getting switched off and even less of a clue what will happen to the MATV customers. To be honest having the MATV system on the cable system is and has been a nightmare, better off without it from Virginmedias point of view,(my opinion of course). Prof_Jolly where are you in the country?
