Battery Error on Samsung?

Hello.

A while ago (a month or two) I had my old Pace replaced with a shiny new Samsung. I kept the remote from the Pace, as it seemed to work on the Samsung. But I noticed that the receiver on the box was not as good as the older Pace ones, and I had to angle the remote quite square at it to get it to work, which is hard to do as it is quite high up on the wall. It was a real nuisance, but I perservered.

Now, when this new Vigin EPG came along, it brought with it a new error dialogue which pops up when it thinks your remote's batteries are running low. The problem is, because my box has such a narrow and poor receiver for the remote, it thinks it is running low all the time! This can really be annoying if I am trying to mute it to answer the phone, as it won't let you do anything else until I press OK. So I'll lunge for the phone, press mute, then have to say 'hang on' because I'm ****-arsing about with the sodding box! GAAAAGH!

So... does anyone know if there are new remote out there which would work better on the Samsung box? I have the blue one with ntl:home on the bottom in silver (see attachment)

That's the one I got with my samsung - the blue remote.

Silly question - but HAVE you changed the batteries in the remote?

In my experience, the remote is the same for Pace and Samsung, I've had both types of box and only 1 remote. Had no problems other than dead batteries.

Mechanicus: Do you only get the message when you press the mute key? If so, program the remote to control your TV volume instead.

Re: Battery Error on Samsung?

couple of things here,if youve set youre remote to also control your t.v. traditionally your batteries will run down quicker, also i guess from you saying that youre t.v. is high up on the wall that its a lcd/plasma,in which case you have to consider infra-red emmissions from the screen which can affect your remote operation and indeed do weird and wonderful things such as turn the set top over when the remote has been pressed or your tv guide appears mysteriously!

Re: Battery Error on Samsung?

Yes, I have tried changing the batteries.
No, it's not an LCD/Plasma, it's a CRT. The box is up on the wall, at about head height, which means it's very hard to get a 'straight' angle when sitting down.
No, it doesn't only do it when I mute the box. It happens randomly.

Ruki is an unknown quantity at this point
Re: Battery Error on Samsung?

I got this same error last night, I'm using normal blue remote I got with my samsung vbox, says the batteries are flat when I try to turn it off. I bought new batteries just this morning and still the same error so it can't be the batteries.

I reckon this is a stupid problem to have, they should have never installed this feature on such an awful STB as, like someone said, you have to aim right at the IR port to be able to change channels.
