When is HD no HD?

As so little is on HD, natrually one goes to "HD on demand" the BBC mainly, whilst "Bleak House" appears to be in HD, so much of it is dimly lit, its wasted, as for "Blue Planet" and Wild weather are concerned, if this is HD, its very poor HD, Wild weather for example, horrible grainy pics not even as good as normal non-HD pictures, whose the Beeb trying to kid?

So far all i've watched is the DaVinci stuff on History HD. I don't fancy Bleak House. We could do with some more HD programs though.

BTW i've not noticed any grainy pictures.

I've watched alot of the HD content and the picture quality has been brilliant. I watched the Masters golf on bbc hd over the weekend and i watch Hotel babylon on there aswell and the picture quality is very good aswell.
What setting have you got it on 1080 or 720?

I have watched a lot of the BBC HD stuff - Judge John Deed was excellent in HD

Pity they removed 3 quarters of the stuff available the other day

i was talking about the "on demand" HD, not the normal HD channel.
ive got a 1080P TV, tried all the settings just for fun, makes no difference.
PS why is there a W/S 1080, and 720, arnT all HD sets W/S ?

just wondered.

I was just saying with my viewing in HD the picture quality has been brilliant.

With the 1080 & 720 wide, these were added well after the boxes came out. Before then the programmes that weren't broadcast in widescreen were shown in 4.3. Now with the wide option the programmes that aren't are stretched if you know what i mean.

I've just had V+ installed and watched a lot of BBC HD content over the last few days. I think that some of the footage within the natural history HD programs is Standard Definition library footage which would explain the grainy quality at times within parts of the programmes. Other footage looks incredible so that was the conclusion that I came to.

Right!-so why is it being touted as HD VOD, when its not!

He said some of the footage within the programmes may not be HD, this doesn't mean to say the rest of the programme wasn't transmitted in HD.

i see so if i watch the "Blue Planet" some parts are in HD, some not?????? ru serious?

Some of the images they use would probably not have been recorded originally in a HD format, it could just be that those sections of the programme will not look HD at all (Can't polish a turd and all that). You could always email the programme makers if it bothers you that much. At least that way you would know wether it is the actual recording or the service at fault.

I don't have any inside information on this. It seemed like a natural conclusion to come to. The vast majority of the programme seemed, to my limited experience, to be HD.

I would also guess that the kind of footage required to put together the programme the producers wanted just wasn't available and to film the equivalent afresh in HD would require a long wait and a large dose of 'being in the right place at the right time'.

This is early days in HD transmission so I am more than willing to put up with a transition phase, particularly as the BBC seem to be making the effort to develop new content in HD format and also bearing in mind that wild life filming doesn't run to a script in the same way that a drama production can. Again no inside knowledge here, just opinion.

older hd sets can only handle 720 hd intertwining lines per frame that makes the picture whereas the newer ones can handle a lot more (being a bit more updated) but not 2 say that all new hd tv's can handle the extra check ur tv user guide it will say in there what hd ur tv can display
