Virgin Media ripping us off?
Just heard the reason we are getting a very poor picture is because Virgin have changed their bandwith to Dsat from fibre recently. I have no idea what that means but my picture quality is very poor compared to how it used to be.
I am seriously considering moving over to Sky, Virgin if true need to pay the extra and sort themselves out cos this is not on. I am now a very disgruntled Virgin customer.

Re: Virgin Media ripping us off?
So you don't know what it means, but you'll take it as face value?
DSAT=Digital Satellite
However the distribution to homes has always been via fibre, then copper wire into the home. If there is a change (which I havent seen in Glasgow) it isn't down to that.
Mod Edit (Matt D) - <removed> Please refrain from comments like that - the OP could just be a misinformed customer with a genuine problem.

Nope, they haven't switched. Why would they? They have an extensive (and expensive to lay) fibre network. Why would they pay extra for satellite bandwidth? I believe some of the channels are sourced from Digital Satellite (such as the remaining Sky channels), but it has always been done that way.
If the quality of pictures has changed recently, there may be a problem with either your connection or your box,

Re: Virgin Media ripping us off?
Something must have happened. Picture quality on Sky Sports is much poorer than on the BBC. It didn't used to be like that. Is it a con by Sky to get us to switch to their HD service?

Re: Virgin Media ripping us off?
Maybe it's just a fault and instead of listening to complete rubbish from other people you should call VM support and get them to look into it so that you get the proper picture quality?

Re: Virgin Media ripping us off?
I agree, i would get it check out for a fault. Sky boxes have as many faults as Virgin boxes, at least you don't have to pay ever to get it corrected with Virgin.
Don't be disgruntled, just call 150, it's simple. Why do people have to come to cableforum to be told how to call 150?

I have called VM out twice. The first one was as thick as **** and had no idea about anything. The second one checked signal strengh, that was ok. He admitted that the picture quality was poor so was going to contact his boss to come out and take a look. That was 5 days ago and we have still to hear anything. We are contacting VM tomorrow to demand they change the box as that is ****ing up now. I am no child so dont send stupid little messages.

Did you not notice the question mark in the title?

Re: Virgin Media ripping us off?
What I do know is the picture quality is poor. I connected my pace box that is now in the kitchen back to my plasma in the living room (The way it used to be) The picture quality was great but now that is poor. It doesn't take a genius to realise that something has happened to the signal.

Re: Virgin Media ripping us off?
Right.....
There's been at least three posts in this thread from other Mods, asking that people stay on topic...no one appeared to pay any attention...
So, I've done a bit of a clean up.
No more off topic posts please. No more insults or bickering either.
sweepster -
As others have said, Virgin have not done anything like that. You may have some sort of fault - I'd suggest phoning Virgin again.
