Got tv sized M installed today - a few questions

I used to have NTL digital tv but got rid of it when they started charging.

Now It is free again I've had it reinstalled, just a few quick questions. BTW I have the Samsung box and I'm in Peterborough (ex cwc)

1. Virgin Central doesn't seem to work - any advice appreciated. The channel itslef is there, but I press red and I get the please wait appear but it never works.

2. How do I change the channel order or at least delete the annoying channels - e.g. at the races or the PPV preview crap that is listed twice?

3. Where is the bbc extra content - i.e. the extra channels you get on Freeview and the News multiscreens?

4. Why aren't there any +1 channels like on Freeview - I thought they were trying to compete with Freeview?

5. The box seems far faster than my original Pace 1000 (and 4000 series). However interactive services still seem mostly very slow indeed. Is this likely to be fixed?

Have to say that if they resolve the above issuues it looks like it could be a good service. Best part so far seems to be that there are no quiz channels whatsoever, so much better than Freeview in that area for sure.

Re: Got tv sized M installed today - a few questions

Welcome back to Virgin Media
  1. Have you tried re-booting the STB - turn off at the mains and leave for 30secs, then back on? Failing that it might need another hit, so call Customer Service tomorrow. You can call free from your Virgin Media phone 150.
  2. Go to favourites and press the red button to re-order. There is an option to put all unsubscribed channels to the end which is useful. There are some changes though with the new Virgin Media software which hasn't yet been rolled out in this area which might change the TV Guide I believe.
  3. Multi screen isn't yet available on BBC News. There is multiscreen for Sports on Saturday via the red button on BBC1.
  4. Not sure which extra channels you are asking for. There are more channels on the XL pack, which obviously is a higher monthly payment. You can check here which channels are available. http://allyours.virginmedia.com/html...ls_sizexl.html
  5. Fast and slow are relative. It's certainly not as fast as a 4MB or 10MB broadband connection and computer - what are you trying to do and how long is it taking. Again, a reboot might solve this problem for you.

Re: Got tv sized M installed today - a few questions

what type of box do you have now?

Which software are you using? (new virgin black software?)

It sounds like a return path problem if you can't get anything red button.

In answer to your questions:
1) sounds like a return path issue- see questions above for more diagnostics
2) You can't on the virgin software i am afraid. The best you can do is set your favourites, then open the mini guide and press red to browse this list. Kinda handy.
3) this is a little basic on virgin, and subject to the red button working. Which extra channels are you referring to though?
4) I'm not sure about size M, but i have loads of +1s, Challenge, Discovery, UK Gold, Bravo, Trouble to name but a few...
5) See above (possible return path problems)

Even new Samsung - not V+ boxes?
Surely if that were the case, when I rebooted my STB, I would get the new software?

Yes AFAIK all of the boxes. You wouldn't get it simply by doing a reboot, but you can get it by forcing your box to update- although this isn't advised as it can brick the box.

Tried a couple of times this week and there has been nothing.
We're usually pretty far behind in this area.....

Re: Got tv sized M installed today - a few questions

Thanks for the replies - I think I have the Virgin software - certinaly lots of Virgin logos everywhere, thoug no bovious way of getting rid of crap channels.

Unplugging the box doesn't solve anything in terms of the problems with Virgin Central, so will call customer services. Pressing red on most channels seems to casue problems.

seems poor that no news multiscreens are available - thay've had years to sort things like that out. Oh well, at least it's free.

Re: Got tv sized M installed today - a few questions

If you have the virgin software (black EPG?) then you can't re-order the channels though you can make a favourites list. It doesn't stop them coming up if you're clicking through channels, but if you access favourites it will give you the info for only teh channels you want.

Thanks, I already treid favourites - I was really hoping it was going to be like with the old EPG where you can change the order.

I suppose at least they've hidden all the channels you can't receive now so progress there if nothing else.

One other question - i had to install the box myslef as Virgin are too busy to do installs. I have something described as an "analogue black end TV Cable" - what is this for please I should I use it. Looks like a tv aeiral cable.

ON THE NEWS MULTISCREENS LIKE FREEVIEW, JUST GO TO BBC NEWS 24 CH 610 PRESS RED AND YOU SHOULD SEE NEWS MULTISREENS,
