Re: New Box, New EPG
Thanks for that John
I best give them a call & ensure the engineer brings one with him
Cheers

Not Quite true matey,if a tech has a Samsung box on his van he would most likely put that in but it just depends on the stock,we are still getting crappy Pace boxes delivered to us

3. Why are the interactive services not as good as they should be? News multi screen etc.

I had a nice shiny new Samsung installed yesterday, its the newer model of the other Samsung that I had.
Because it had no software on it, the tech downloaded the Virgin software to it. The software runs a lot faster than it used to and I would says its about the same as Sky (definately faster than my mums Sky box, but thats around 8+ years old)
Haven't tried Interactive, don't want to break my shiny new box
But on my old Samsung, it took 10 minutes to load the Channel 5 interactive to enter the Gadget show competition, but the time the interactive had loaded up, the show had finished and I couldn't enter the competition anyway.

Thanks for the reply!
So basically the EPG is as good as Sky but still got a little work to do on the interactive side?
I'd imagine it's possible to get interactive services to rival Sky because the platform is superior - correct?

If you can afford it I would buy a cable, it will most likely be a better quality than the patch lead the engineer gives you.

Cheers for that
Is it a standard hdmi cable, or special to the V+ BOX?

I didnt when i had my V+ box installed... had a tech earlier in the day who said they were told not to give HDMI cables if you dont have a HI Def tv, we dont currently, techs in the afternoon said, "and heres a free HDMI cable if you ever upgrade your TV. I think they come standard in the V+ packaging.

Re: New Box, New EPG
I am in the Nottingham area with a samsung smt 2100c, still with blue ntl epg and it wont do a forced update. it starts to, then rolls the channel numbers at fairly high speed. After a short while it comes up with an error message on the box front. Er 65?

Re: New Box, New EPG
Hi Bramcotestu, what you are seeing is the boxes way of saying "ERASE", just it displays "ERAS".
Basically at this point it is wiping your previous software in order to write the new stuff. If you leave it at this point for a bit longer you should see "Prog" come on the display. This is when it is writing the downloaded software.
No need to worry.
