Magic Eye
I currently have sky+ and use magic eyes with a booster to control the sky+ from the kitchen - great to stop crying kids.
The sky+ as I am sure many of you know has a second aerial output that you can pass power down to allow the operation of the magic eyes.
If or more likely when I move to a V+ installation will I be able to repeat the setup?
Thanks in advance

Re: Magic Eye
I wish I had magic eyes on my face. What are magic eyes? Must be good if it stops your kids from crying. Can I have some for chopping up onions then it might stop me crying chopping up onions.

I currentey use an Omni Link, as no second out with power on NTL stb.
The V+ does not have analogue pass thru (someone correct if I'm wrong)
I currently use a scart pass thru adapter to feed it to my video, and use the RF out that to feed my bedroom, works well, I used to use the vcr scart on my old stb, but on the V+ vcr scart doesn't show menu's.
However if you use HDMI or component the scart will be diasbled. so you could use the vcr output and have no menu.
There are other ways to do it, but would take time to explain and depends on what equipment you have.
Some DVD recorders, AV's have extra inputs/outputs which could be rigged to give the desired output.
Or the easy option, an extra £5 a month will get you a second standard stb which you could have installed in the kitchen and they could watch different channels!

Thanks for the info. The problem with the extra stb is wiring the cable whereas I already have the normal aerial cable (apologies for not knowing the exact names for the different cables)
Looks like I might be sticking with sky+ for now until I find a way of doing this.

B&Q do a little gadget that allows me to change channel from upstairs.
You can see it and buy it here if its not at B&Q http://www.philexproducts.com/slx_remote_extenders.html
These are the pictures
You can use the existing TV cable that runs from your Sky box to your 2nd Tv. This should just plug into the RF out on the Virgin box. The actual unit, doesn't connect to the box itself, it just plugs into a power socket and has little IR blobs that sit in front of the Virgin Box, or whatever other equipment you want to control (VCR, DVD etc)

Thanks for the info. Does this allow me to have full functionality - menus and recorded programs? So I just have to have a little wire sitting in front of the set top box - I'm sure I could live with that.

Re: Magic Eye
One other question on this... is it easy to get second ( or even third) remote controls?

You used to be able to buy them from the NTL shop, if I remember correctly they were £9.99. You can also get them on eBay.
I'm not sure if Virgin Media has the same "shop", I can't seem to find it on their site.. Ah, just found it Virgin Media Cable Shop and they are £9.99 each.

I only have a std set top box, but the menus work fine on it for me. I can't see it wouldn't work for a V+ box, as it doesn't plug into the box in anyway shape or form.
They aren't expensive and if bought from B&Q you can take it back with no questions asked if it doesn't work. I tried other Magic eye products and they didn't work at all, this was up and running in 5 minutes.

Re: Magic Eye
Have a look on eBay for Powemid XL or X10 like these
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Marmitek-Power...QQcmdZViewItem
That's what I use.
One sits on top of the TV upstairs and one under the sofa in the lounge where the box is. As long as it can "see" the front of the cable box, it can send it a signal to change channel. Both needs mains power (no battery option).
You just need to get a second remote, again of eBay or from the shop as above.
