there's no way I'd go over to sky - there's only a few programmes on Sky One I watch & I'm sure I can find other ways of seeing them

Re: SKY VS Virgin Media

Apparently Sky can't do this... They have to allow NTL to re-broadcast Sky channels for broadcasting regulations. However, its a bit ambiguous...

From CF news article:

Quote:
However, Sky cannot just pull its channels from ntl:Telewest, it has to make its channels available to cable companies under broadcasting regulations. But according to the speculation, if Sky does not get what it wants from negotiations, Sky channels are under threat from being revoked from the cable tv network.

They might not be able to refuse the channels, but what's to stop them offering them at a ridiculous rate knowing that Virgin Media would then not take them?

that would still be seen as anti-competitive, same thing with BT and BT wholesale, BT wholesale afaik cant sell to BT at different rates to what they charge other ISPs.

Re: SKY VS Virgin Media

Sky One was one of the reasons for getting subscription TV way back in the analogue Diamond Cable days. There is still too much good stuff on Sky One to go without it.

Not that I realistically think Sky will pull it's channels off Virgin.

there isn't anyway that sky will give up the 3.3 million cable coverage of sky 1 or any other channel...

sky need ntl/virgin media as much as they need sky. Ntl are sky's biggest customer and it would be crazy and against regulations to pull the channles off!!

Yeh, a good point.

I think its all wind on Sky's part, just upping the anti really. I voted to stay with Virgin, I've been a customer since 97, and they have rarely put a foot wrong with me.

I'd miss Sky 1 a little if they oulled it, but given that about only 20% of their daily offering are not repeats, I have to ask if I would miss it that much.

Re: SKY VS Virgin Media

Sky are not, and never were even thinking of removing their channels from ntl, Telewest & Virgin Media. This was just a publicity stunt to try and make some people leave an d join sky and to get Sky's name back into the news, since Virgin Media is all over the news at the moment, lots of people are talking about it.

Anyway, i'll be keeping my internet with Virgin Media and i'll be keeping my TV with Sky, for now anyway....

...unless Virgin Media offer something really good.
