In fairness, we do not know what Sky are asking Virgin to pay. Bearing in mind the fact that Sky have recently paid hundreds of millions to stop NTL buying into ITV, is it not possible that Sky are trying to negotiate prices that would make Virgin uncompetitive?

I'm sure all of us would like to know how it will work - the VIP pack has the immutable access sorted (movies & sports), presumably ???? but, the rest is still 'up for grabs', afaik

Isn't that how the free market economy works? Companies slog it out to make a profit and the consumer wind (supposedly).
I honestly think people on here do have doubled standards some times - they whine about discounts and haggling but then think Sky are the devil for having the gaul to charge what they like for their products.

Because thats how business works? Maximising the revenue you receive while reducing your spend.

They don't love him, they fear him, that's why he is allowed to run roughshod over the rules, couldn't agree more about switching though, I'd rather go without telly than put a penny in his pocket

Re: SKY VS Virgin Media
I'm with Virgin Media for the long haul, I've been a customer since it was Cable & Wireless & losing a couple of channels that I hardly ever watch isn't enough to make me quit, hell we've had so many channel changes over the years I don't even know if any of the ones I had with C&W are still showing.

Re: SKY VS Virgin Media
Sky are removing ALL their channels from Virgin Media (Sky Sports, Sky Movies, Sky One etc.) in summer 2007 so it looks like Sky will win the battle unless Virgin Media buy the World Cup Footie.
Plus Sky are putting Sky One, Sky Two, Sky Sports 1 and Sky Movies 1 ON Freeview so many people will quit Virgin Media, and join Freeview or Sky. (When Sky win the battle, they will remove all those channels from Freeview) This does mean that Sky's cost will go down about £5 and when Sky win the battle, they are planning to move their cost's down £10, meaning that Six Entertainment Mixes without Sports or Movies, will cost £11 , and that will also win the battle against Talk Talk and BT, becuase phone is free and broadband mid pack costs £5, so altogether it will cost £16.

Cable won't loose Sky Movies and Sky Sports as they are covered by the rate card and Sky would have to answer to the Office of Fair Trading.
Here's more information from 1996 http://www.oft.gov.uk/NR/rdonlyres/9...3/0/oft179.pdf

Aren't you assuming that every single Virgin subscriber actually wants the sports channels, I'm not alone in not being interested in the sports channels, but I still won't leave Virgin because of losing a few unimportant channels.

Re: SKY VS Virgin Media
The following is from Brand Republic
Sky urges Virgin Media to sign new deal.
BSkyB has challenged Virgin Media to sign a new deal to continue to carry its basic portfolio of channels across the cable network, which 'reflects the proposed new terms and considerable value of its basic channels'.
Sky said that without a new agreement, it is possible that Sky's basic channels could cease to be available to Virgin Media customers, which would be a major blow to the newly rebranded rival. The broadcaster has now begun to broadcast messages across its channels to urge cable viewers to encourage Virgin Media to reach a new agreement. Sky confirmed that "discussions are continuing between Sky and Virgin Media over a new agreement for distribution of Sky's basic channel portfolio to cable TV viewers". The broadcaster says it wants its channels to be available to cable television viewers and is offering more value to Virgin Media than ever before."

I somehow feel $ky are getting worried now. I personally hope that Mr B makes them wish they never started this fight.

Re: SKY VS Virgin Media
Well at least most of you have a choice at changing to Sky, I cannot as our area does not have BT or Sky, only Virgin Media (Telewest).
I am a big fan of stargate and the new episodes are only available on Skyone.

Re: SKY VS Virgin Media
I am a Sky+ customer currently and I would LOVE to move to V+. Unfortunately I am planning to relocate in the next few months so it would make no sense to do so.
Sky disgusts me. I can't think of why anyone would feel any loyalty to that dishonest rabble of a company. The management are scared of Virgin. They are scared of Branson. They can feel that people trust Virgin 500x more than they trust Sky, and they damn well should. As an NTL customer for the last 5 years, I can see and feel the vast improvement in service and offering that has occurred in the last two quarters.
When Branson proved the dirty tricks of BA, he gave the compensation that BA paid out as a bonus to the Virgin Atlantic employees.
I wish Virgin Media all the success, and hope that they don't lose sight of their fundamentals of putting their employees first thus their employees putting the customers first.
