Fuzzy picture when turning tv on

Hi all,

I'v had ntl tv for a few years now and recently we upgraded to a digital STB. An engineer come round and installed everything and it works fine, however when you first turn the TV and STB on the picture is well not fuzzy but has horizontal lines through it and this lasts for a few minutes and then suddenyl goes away and the picture is perfect.

The engineer said he couldn't do anything about it and didn't realy give me an explination of why it happans. Anyone here got any ideas how I can fix it?

Also I was woundering, I have my STB and TV downstairs and I have my NTL broadband and modem upstairs. I have an old STB thats not digitial is it possible to unplug the fiber cable from my modem and split it someway so it goes into the modem and the STB so i can get extra channels upstairs? Or does it not work like that!?
