Moving STB to upstairs... can I use existing coax aerial cable?

Hi,

I have a Samsung 2100C STB downstairs, and use the aerial out to feed a booster/splitter to send the RF signal around the house.

The coax earial cable that goes round the house was installed only a year ago so is new.

If I put the STB upstairs, can I use my existing coax aerial cable or must I call NTL in to run new cable through walls and etc?

FYI I have V+ coming Wednesday so can ask the ntl engineer to relocate the STB, just would rather they use my existing cable which is underfloors etc.

TIA

think your find it has to be special cable unlike coax etc as you said ask ntl engineer when he arrives should be no big problem ??

I don't think it will work using the RF input on the box, it would still need a cable feed. Plus you wouldn't be able to watch different channels upstairs and downstairs, which would defeat the object of keeping the other box.

When they put ours in, they drilled through the ceiling and the cable runs down a wall... not very tidy at all, but it was done before we moved in.

Re: Moving STB to upstairs... can I use existing coax aerial cable?

The cable used by ntl:telewest for the feed from the street is usually a higher quality than the average co-axial used for standard terrestrial feeds. It's that standard cable you've probably used to redistribute the STB output around the house.

Sometimes that cable will suffice, but it's vulnerable to interference and other loss of signal quality that means the STB doesn't get what it needs in terms of input.

The feed to the STB also needs to connect directly to the junction box, street cable termination point. Any additional joints i.e. where your current STB is located, can also affect signal quality.

In short, if you want a second STB, you need a second cable run around your house.
