TV Only Package Order

Hi all

First post. Been interested in NTL since I heard about the TV drive for HD content but never signed up because I didn't want to take an NTL phone line as well. I was impressed that they announced a while ago that you could finally get TV without phone from 1st of Feb.

So I waited until this morning and attempted to place an order via the website. It's odd their PDF with the price changes mentions TV sizes large and XL would be available as TV only packages because the website only says you can have XL without the phone. No problem for me at least, I wanted XL.

So I went through ordering the XL package online adding my V+ Box as I go, but there was no option to remove the £11 phone service that is added on automaticallY! I went throught the process a few times just to make sure it wasn't me, but same problem on each attempt.

I rang NTL sales directly and explained the problem and they acknowledged there were having some hassle this morning with all the new packages and offers going live and someone would call me back to sort it out.

I got a call back within 10 minutes and placed my order over the phone. I did ask about the £10 online discount I would miss out on because the website is busted so they added this to my account. I don't think their backend systems are sorted out yet for these new packages, I kept being put on hold while the sales guy went off to check subscription costs etc and finally once all was ordered he did confess the prices did not look correct on my account but should be ok once things update!

I've got an install date of 8th Feb which is not bad. As long as the engineer turns up with a V+ box and does not touch my phone line I'll be happy. But I will ring them nearer the install date just to confirm everything

Not a bad first experience with NTL I suppose.

Hope the above might be helpful for someone thinking of ordering a TV only package.

Re: TV Only Package Order

to be honest, I HAVE NEVER HAD A PROBLEM WITH NTL PHONELINE, [well, apart from when it was installed it wouldnt work for the first 2 days?]

The TV I have had no problems *touch wood* for almost a year or so i think... again, when I first got ntl the box had to be replaced many times...

The broadband works fine in the daytime, but struggles at night, although recent nights have been better....

The main issue with ntl IMO is broadband oversubscription, and ridiculously high pricing compared to competitors.

the broadband i can still bare, even though it meant i stopped playing online games since of the stupendous pings [at night], but i guess atleast i studied more[Branson's hidden tactic i wonder]

Re: TV Only Package Order

The install went through without any hassle yesterday. Got a Virgin branded V+ box which grabbed an update as soon as we plugged it in and the VOD was working within a few hours. Still sometimes see an error saying the service is unavailable, but trying again works.

I notice you still cant order a TV only package properly on the new website! So my advice is to ring sales directly like I did.

Just need some more HD content now

I don't think people have probelms with the phone lines it is just that the calls cost so much more than you get on a BT line.
